Wind whistled in my face as I ran, arriving in my class room just in time for the first lesson of the day: History. My history teacher looked up sharply when I rushed in but didn’t comment as I slipped into my place next to my best friend Amy.

‘Why are you so late’ she hissed, shoving her books aside to make room for me.

‘Long story I’ll tell you later’ I hissed back and fixed my gaze on my teacher as she began to speak.

That was a long day. Of course in the short intervals we had I filled Amy in on what I did, she was not impressed at all:

‘Em I can’t believe you did that’ she scowled.

‘I know, and I am sorry for it, not just because Mr Linden is going to kill me.’ I replied.

Emily grimaced and said: ‘Rather you than me’.

I smiled knowing she was on my side now.

‘So we’ll go and see Mr Linden after school today then?’ I suggested.

‘oh ok then’ she answered. I silently congratulated myself. Now I wouldn’t have to face Mr Linden alone.

Five hours later we entered the old library. Mr Linden was nowhere to be seen. After 20 minutes of searching we gave up.

‘this is useless’ Amy sighed collapsing into Mr Linden’s old chair, before jumping right up again as if she had had an electric shock.

‘Amy, What on-‘ I began before she cut me off:

‘He’s dead Em’

‘Wh-What’ I stuttered.

‘I saw it, I saw it all, just now’ she whispered shaking violently ‘the shadows took him.’

‘Don’t worry Em it wasn’t real just a-‘ but then I stopped because I realised I didn’t know what it was. A dream? A vision? For all I knew It could be true.

‘We’ve got to get out of here Em, they’re coming for the book they know it is not in Mr Linden’s care.  Quick run.’

I hesitated, this can’t be true can it? Two seconds later I realised how wrong I was when a dark figure appeared behind Amy

We both sprinted out of the library and ran all the way to my house, up the stairs and burst into my bedroom locking the door behind us. I rounded on Amy and said ‘Right tell me what the hell is happening.’
