This case had ravaged the company for what seemed like eons. Those who dare take up the challenge of solving it found themselves, well... gone. And yet, Y/N, a detective, decided to take up the challenge.

Y/N's company had rented out an old hotel to serve as their base of operations, a place to keep all their information and clues as their investigation went on. At least, that's how it was supposed to be. Most of her co-workers had left town and gone off to find other cases to investigate; the fear of being murdered while investigating this case was too much for them to handle. So Y/N and a couple of others had been left on their own to solve this case themselves. Admittedly, Y/N was equally as scared as the rest of her team had been, but she wasn't going to let that stop her from finding the psycho behind these murders.

These gloomy, dimmed hallways were a bitch to traverse, and the rooms were small and cramped, but Y/N made do. Turning down the hallway, she made it to the door, immediately pulling her keycard from her pocket. As she lifted the card to the lock, a swift breeze crossed her nape. Y/N quickly spun around with a gasp, chills rushing down her spine. Much to her relief, no one was there. Letting out a nervous chuckle, Y/N turned back around to unlock her room. A tall, masked man stood between her and the door. Yelping, Y/N jumped back before quickly getting her wits about her,

"H-Hey, this building is under use for an ongoing investigation and is private property. You're going to have to find somewhere else to stay, sorry."

He remained silent, staring down at Y/N.

"Did you hear me?"

"I heard you just fine."

The mysterious man said, taking a step closer. Y/N took a step back. Quickly glancing behind her, she saw that she had nearly backed up against the wall. Feeling very uncomfortable, she placed her hand on the pistol in the holster strapped to her waist. And when this masked man took another step towards her, she raised the gun, aiming it at his face. Seeming a bit surprised, the man paused for a moment before grabbing the barrel of the gun and pushing it aside in one swift move. He gripped Y/N's wrist tightly and pushed her harshly against the wall.

"Ack-!" Y/N coughed, dropping the pistol.

"So you're the detective who's been searching for me." The masked man scoffed.

He put his free hand on her shoulder and kept her pinned against the wall. Y/N stared at his mask with wide eyes, nearly as wide as the cartoony eyes of the mask that stared back at her.

"You're... the killer," Y/N mumbled.

"This is getting boring... repetitive." He spoke lowly.

Y/N's worried expression turned to one of shock. How could he say that? Boring? Using her hand that still hung at her side, Y/N reached behind her, tapping her fingers against the pocket knife stored in her back pocket.

"Repetitive?! Killing people? Just how psychotic are you? You're heartless. Those are lives you're taking, people with families!"

"...I know."

Just who did this guy think he was? Taking lives as if it was nothing, was he some kind of freak? Someone who enjoyed inflicting pain upon others? Just knowing that this guy showed no remorse in murdering someone filled Y/N with fear, but more than that, rage. Gripping the handle of the pocket knife, she pulled the blade from her pocket and plunged it into the masked man's chest. He looked down.

"Ow."

What kind of reaction was that? A few silent moments crept by before he looked back to Y/N and threw her to the ground. Quickly, he crouched down and pinned her arms above her head, moving one leg to cover Y/N's, holding them down as well. Y/N desperately tried to push him off, but he was much larger than her. Her attempts to get away were futile. Exhausted, Y/N's body went limp. Her chest rose and fell with each heavy breath she took. The masked man tilted his head at her before sitting up, taking his hand off of her arms. With a grunt, he pulled the knife from his chest and tossed it to the floor as blood seeped into his hoodie.

Y/N scrambled back in terror. She turned to try and crawl away, only for the man to grab her and force her back to the ground. She hit the carpet with a hefty thud, unable to get up as the man loomed over her like a shadow, arms and legs pinning her to the floor. Y/N swung and kicked, trying everything in the book to get him off, but to no prevail. She eyed her knife just within arms reach, but as she went for it, the man kicked it to the side. The masked freak reached over to grab Y/N's gun, giving Y/N enough wiggle room to lean forward and bite hard down on the man's hand.

"Ow, what the fuck?" He dropped the gun as he arched his arm back, shaking his hand in an almost cartoony way.

Y/N screamed for help with all that she could but could only muster half the word before the cold end of a pistol entered her mouth. Looking down at Y/N, the masked man raised a finger in front of his face to hush her. He ran a hand through her hair as tears began to form in Y/N's eyes, as if pretending to comfort her, then...

"Hey! Get off of her!"

Rapidly approaching them from one end of the hallway was one of Y/N's co-workers. They must have heard some of the commotions from inside their room and came to investigate. Finally, Y/N would be rescued from this psycho.

...Bang.

In one swift motion, the man had removed the gun from Y/N's mouth and sent a bullet through the head of her colleague. Y/N could only watch as this monster shot one of her own without even the slightest hint of hesitation. She wanted to cry, to scream, but she couldn't. She had to escape. With the man distracted, Y/N took her chance. She leaned forward, her forehead slamming into the man's lower jaw, momentarily disorienting him. She managed to wriggle an arm loose and used her lower body strength to push the man off her. Y/N scrabbled to take the gun from him, eventually loosening his grip enough to remove the weapon from his grasp and into her own. The man turned to Y/N, his hand clasped the knife, concealing it behind his back. Y/N aimed for the center of his mask, right in the middle of its two cartoony eyes, but she was too slow. The masked man threw her arm upward, the sheer panic of the moment causing her to pull the trigger, giving him enough time to strike.

Y/N gasped, feeling the cold embrace of metal slash her throat. Blood trickled to the floor, settling around her neck and painting the carpets. The masked man brushed the blade against his hoodie, cleaning away the crimson stain, as he watched Y/N roll to her side. Blood spurted from her mouth, running down her chin. The man stood up, stretching some as he did. From down the hallway, rapid footsteps could be heard coming their way. The masked man crouched down and plucked the gun from Y/N's hand, placing the weapon in his pocket before speaking.

"I'll take these. It doesn't look like you'll be needing them anymore."

Standing up once again, the man flipped the pocket knife shut and tucked it into his pocket with the gun.

"Too bad we have to cut our date short. I was having fun. Oh well, perhaps we'll meet again, detective."

Adjusting his mask, the man flashed Y/N a sly, sinister smile as he started down the hall, vanishing around a corner. Y/N was left cold and alone in the hall, blood pooling around her, tears streaming down her cheeks.
