"AND STAY OUT!" My most recent caregiver yelled at me, slamming the front door behind me in the process. I jumped and mewed in fear of the sudden action and sound before finally getting off the porch, the sounds that I had come accustomed to becoming fainter as I went further and further away until I couldn't hear them anymore.
After awhile, I stopped for a bit and gave my legs some rest while figuring out where I was. It was an entirely different neighborhood, but one that still looked familiar. "It's her neighborhood," I thought in realization before going the route I remember to her house, thinking it as I went there. "Through the side road, around the Karen's fence, and straight towards the rundown garage." As I approached, I heard a familiar sound.
"Well well well," the voice said with a slight purr. "Looks like the "caregivers" didn't really much about you huh Kitty?"
"Smokey!" I meowed happily, nuzzling and rubbing against him as a friend after bounding towards him.
"You finally admit defeat for trying to finding a new owner?" He asked knowing full well what my answer is.
"Yeah," I answered with a sigh. "She has room for one more right?" He gave a cheerful "Of course." as his response before leading to the house.
"So how are you allowed outside right now?" I asked with a mew curiously. He proceeded to explain how his owner was taking care of trash, saying that her habit of leaving the door open while taking care of trash and/or recycling hasn't gone away.
"Speak of the devil," I meowed, interrupting him. We turned and saw Christy walking back to the house from the curb where the trash bin sat. I waited for to come over in anticipation before meowing and weaving between her legs in excitement.
"Look who's back," she exclaimed. Christy picked me up and carried me in with Smokey following us. Inside, it looked different and yet, at the same time, the same.
"Welcome home, Kitty," Christy told me in a calming voice, setting me down so that I can explore.
