"It was delicious, thank you." I stand up and reach into my pocket and pull out an overused five dollar bill and flatten it down on the glossy, black counter.
The chef smiles and waves his spatula in the air, "Thank you, have a nice day!"
"You, too." I smile and wave back as I walk towards the door.
I hear my phone chime and flip it to read the message. It's from Angel Soul Protection and it says, 'Angel Skai Haven will be meeting you shortly. He will be your new guardian but he doesn't know what you look like. Please greet him.' I've been alive for millions and millions of years to keep the earth alive, because I am the earth's soul. I turn around and pull out a chair. Heaven has agreed to protect me. Just as I sit, the door opens and a gust of wind blows my long dark brown hair into my face. Many angels have died for me. Just for this one me. I run my fingers through the top of my hair and smooth it all the way down to the side. The straight thin curls loosen into a seemingly thick amount of hair. I focus my attention on the man that walks in.
Heads turn towards him; he attracts the attention of all the girls and the angry mumbles of all of the guys. He wears a bright innocent face and his dark brown hair is styled to the side. The thing that catches my attention most are his bright blue eyes. As he walks past me, I look at his hands that swing by his sides. A tiny black upside down tattoo is on his wrist. The one sided wing looks like a three with another swirl that curls in. A halo floats above and the word 'angel' is in all lower case cursive letters below. I call out his name, "Skai Haven?"
He turns his head to look at me and raises his eyebrows, "Oh, you're Clover?"
"Yea, I am." the girls around us turn their heads back toward their friends and family.
The aura of the room changes dramatically and the atmosphere feels heavy. The girls whisper, one leads to another and the room is a jumbled mess of words.
"It's nice to meet you. Let's get out of here."
We walk out of the restaurant side by side and find a nice park to talk. He points out towards an ice cream truck, "Do you want some?"
My nose crinkles as I smile, "Yes, please, I want vanilla."
"Okay, wait here." He runs off and stands in front of the ice cream man.
I turn my body left to right with my hands locked behind my back. I smile and look at the skirt of my dress twirl. A hand wraps over my mouth and holds me close to their tall body. I squirm and scream and the person behind me chuckles. Out of the corner of my eye a man appears and lifts my legs off of the ground. They carry me and run, but not very far because they throw me down shortly. My shoulder slams into the ground and the impact jolts my head down.
I push myself up with my forearm and try to crawl away. One of the men grabs onto my ankle and twists me around. My head crashes into a rock on the ground and the entire world starts spinning. I hear the clink and buckle of a belt and one of them stands in front of me, above my head. He grabs me by my wrists and holds them together and I try to pull away but his grip becomes tighter. I try to kick my feet at them and then the guy unbuckling his belt freezes, and the man holding my arms is taken by surprise. He doesn't let me go but his hold loosens. The man's eyes roll back and he collapses to the side.
A tall man stands behind him with a large stick raised in the air. His eyes are fiery and fierce and the man holding my wrists scampers away. The man, Skai, drops the stick and it falls behind his head and onto the damp ground without a noise. He says, "Don't worry, the police are on their way."My body aches everywhere but I must not have noticed because of the adrenaline of the moment. Sirens sound and police run down the muddy slope.
Skai kneels beside me, "I'm sorry. I should've never left you alone. What happened?"
