Rain droplets patter against the window, like a lullaby to my ears. I am jolting down some notes for later, fighting the urge to lay flat on the desk.
It is the last lesson for the day and I can't wait to head home and snooze on my bed since practice is probably going to get cancelled due to the downpour.
The only thing bothering me right now is if I have an umbrella on me, or else, I'll have to walk home in the pouring rain, alone.
The bell finnaly rings. I gather all my belongings and leave the class to my locker. Michiko happens to be away because of her dentist's appointment and has gone after recess. Luckyyy.
I reach my locker and without wasting a second, I'm rummaging through it, in hopes to find my umbrella. Unfortunately, the universe won't allow it. My umbrella is not here.
If only Michiko was here..
Sullen, I make my way to the entrance of the building, hoping for a miracle to happen. As in a cue, my phone starts ringing. I check my screen, only to find out it's mom. The colour from my face quickly drains out.
Hide itt...I pick it up.
"Hi mom"
"Hello honey, do you have an umbrella with yourself. It really is pouring today."
The conversation took off to a solid start. And here I thought she wouldn't know if I didn't bring it up.
I can't lie because she's gonna find out anyway, and that would be a lot of damage. So it's better I cone out clean right now.
"No.. I guess I happen to leave it at the stand.." My voice trails off.
Silence falls over the other side of the line. Anyone would have mistaken it for some network issues, but I know too well. Knowing what's coming next, I put some distance between me and my phone.
Here it comes. Brace yourself,
don't die.."Are you really serious about this?? I told you it was going to rain when I sent you a 'Good Morning' text, didn't I? Do you really enjoy worrying your mother like this??"
There is a long pause before she starts again. This time with a gentle tone.
"Anyways.. ask Michiko to drop you home. Also, call me when you reach home and I repeat myself CALL ME NOT TEXT ME. Get home safe, bye."
"Bye.. I'll be sure to call you."
My ear is still ringing. She probably has busted one of my drums. But, it's over and I'm alive, something to celebrate about.
I hear a giggle beside me. My eyes slowly shift towards the voice, only to find a tall brunette in his gym clothes and his bag slinging on his shoulders. He abruptly stops giggling when he senses my gaze on him.
It's the Oikawa Tooru. My heart does a backflip, then a somersault, then a back layout, and a front flip and is now flat on the ground.
