When I got home after school I was still thinking about Trevor. I think my mom was talking to me, but I was too busy thinking about him. "Reagan, Reagan!" my mom yelled. I perked up at her. "Hmm?" I mumbled. "Kayla's here."  I looked over at the door. There she was, tapping her foot against the hardwood floor. I grunted and got up from the kitchen counter stool. "Word has it that Trevor's at the mall." she whispered. I waved 'bye' to my mom and scurried out the door.

It's not that I was stalking Trevor. I just wanted to be around him anytime I could. Or as close as I could. Whenever I was close to him I could smell him. He smells exactly like vanilla, mint, and lemongrass. It was actually a perfect combination. Of course, he was perfect in all ways. Kayla pulled up to the Dick's parking lot. "He's always in there, looking for Nike socks and such, ya know, common boy activities." Kayla said to me as we were walking up to the store. I elbowed her playfully. I saw him with his friend and Julie... I noticed that Julie was hanging all over Trevor's friend. Thank God. "Go talk to him!" Kayla said kind of loudly. Julie and the other guy looked over at us and I turned away quickly. "Could you be any louder?" I ask, snarkily. Kayla shrugged. "Probably." she smirked over at me. I rolled my eyes as Kayla and I worked our way over to the escalator that led to the rest of the mall. I noticed that Trevor was looking up at me. Or maybe Kayla? He was smiling that smile. That smile that made me melt. I smiled back as the escalator came to a halt. Kayla and I walked off the elevator. Being the clumsy person I was, I tripped on Kayla's long sweater. Trevor bolted towards the top of the elevator. When he got there he helped me up, lifting me up by my armpits. He stood me up on my feet. "Wow... you weren't lying when you said you said you were clumsy." he laughed. My face was red hot. "Don't worry about it." he whispered. I half-smiled.

At school on Monday my phone rang. It was my dad. "Sweetie... I need you to come home," he stopped talking, like he was holding in something,"Immediately." My dad had never called me during school before. "Dad what's going on?" I said, my voice shaking a little. "Look it can't be said over the phone. I need you to come home. Now." he said sternly.

When I got home my dad was a ball on our couch. "Dad?" I called. He sniffed and sat up. He motioned me to the couch. I sat down next to him. "Your mother," he cleared his throat and a tear rolled down his cheek. "Dad? What's going on? What happened to Mom?" I asked, my voice quivering even more. "Your mother was," he paused,"shot." I was shocked. I couldn't move. My jaw was stuck in place.  A single tear rolled down my cheek. Then two more. Then ten. Then I was sobbing. My dad held me in his arms. About an hour later when I calmed down a little bit I moved up to my room. I lied on my bed and called Kayla. She didn't pick up, so I called Trevor. He picked up right away. I didn't say anything at first. "Reagan... what's wrong?" he asked. I started crying again. "I'm coming over." he said then hung up. The doorbell rang fifteen minutes later. I heard my dad get up and answer it. Then I heard footsteps leading up to my room. A minute later I felt arms around me. I turned over and started crying even more. Trevor stroked my hair. "Your dad told me what happened. It happened to me to." he said. We both just layed there for an hour. Then he had to go home and help his dad with laundry.

I was dodging Trevor and Kayla's calls. I had been in my bed for two weeks. The only thing I ate was an apple, basically because my dad forced it down my throat. My whole family had been traveling in and out of my house all week. Only my aunt and my grandparents went up to my room to see how I was doing. I didn't move. They tried talking to me, but I wouldn't respond. It was like I was in a coma. My whole world had shut down. I didn't want to imagine my life without my mom. My phone kept ringing and ringing, so that at one point my dad had to call everyone back and tell them I wasn't using my phone and wouldn't be for a while. I was a recluse for about three months. I stayed in my room and didn't eat anything. By the time I actually wanted to get out of bed I was starving. I called up Kayla. She answered. "Howdy, stranger!" she said perkily. "Hey..." I replied. "How.. how are you doing?" she asked, sincerely. "I'm... better. Wanna grab some food?" I sighed. She made an agreeing sound then hung up. Ten minutes later she showed up at my door. She fixed my face and made me get dressed in something other than sweatpants.

She drove her and I to The Pottoroff Brew. We walked in and there was Trevor.  He saw me immediately. He stood up and walked over to me. He gave me a big hug. We hugged for about five minutes until Kayla practically peeled us off each other. "Do you want to join us?" I asked. He shook his head no. "I have to go grocery shopping for my... mom." he said "mom" like it was a bad word. "It's fine, Trevor, I know you have a mom. Just because I don't have one anymore, doesn't mean you can't have one." I said, probably a little bit harshly. He nodded his head and waved 'goodbye'. Kayla gave me a weird look. "Little harsh?" she said, crossing her arms. "Whatever. I just want a panini and a iced mocha." I said to the cashier, rolling my eyes.
