Maria sat in the waiting room of the police station, she had been called down in regards to 'the incident' in 1985. She is called into the room, she sits down but she isn't kept waiting long.
"Maria, my name is Detective Baker, we met six years ago when we rescued you from Ashbury National Park." Detective Baker says, Maria was twelve years old, living with her grandmother.
"Yes I remember..." Maria says
"You mentioned six years ago a man named Dale." Baker says
"Yes, and you never found him right?" Maria asks
"Until yesterday. Dale Wynn was found in a cave by some campers. His body is being prepared but...we found his journal. And in it, he named you the only beneficiary to his earthly possessions." Maria gasps, she never thought she'd hear about Dale again. She was sad he was dead, but glad to have the closure.
"The journal...he used to write in it whenever he had a free moment of rest." Maria sighs
"I just wanted to be the one to give you this journal." Baker says.
Maria had lived everyday since she escaped from the woods wanting to better herself. Taking the teachings of Dale, she learned a lot more survival skills by the age of eight. Maria read the entry's of the journal, crying at times. In the last page that Dale had written on, Maria begins writing her own message to Dale.

Dale, I wish I could tell you in person how much you meant to me but this felt as right a place to tell you. In the short time we knew each other, you treated me like I was your own kid, and you let me feel like my dad was still with me for a little while longer. After reading about what happened, I want to thank you for what you did. Those monsters would have taken more lives if not for you, I just wish you had escaped the fire. I hope you're resting among angels, finding the peace you never had in life. I love you Dale, thank you for saving my life.
Signed,
Maria Wynn Valdez
