Crystal looked up from her algebra book, "Why?" she asked coldly.

"I thought you'd like to go with me to the dance," a sixteen-year-old boy with silky brown hair and eyes stated.

"What's in it for you?" she returned to her previous task of copying her homework then shut her book. "What do you mean, Chris?"

"It's strange how the most popular guy in the sophomore class, who can have any girl he wants instantly, asks the only girl he's never been with to the winter dance. And how he expects her to go with him when she knows that he calls her a freak." Crystal pushed her glasses up her nose, "Are you out of options? Is that why you settled for me?"

The boy sighed and stood, "Forget this. I was only being nice, but you're impossible!" he stormed out of the classroom as the bell rang. Crystal gathered her things and headed to her locker. She examined her papers when she noticed the title of a book peeking out from her bag. She quickly put her books and binder into her bag and hustled out of the door into the blustery cold of the winter's day. When she opened the doors she was immediately lashed with a gust of bone-chilling air. She smiled and began the hour- long trek home.

"Mr. Frost sure is keeping it cold this year," she said to no one in particular. That's why she was labeled a freak at school, she still believed in fairy tales even though she was sixteen. Another gust of wind blew around her, chilling her bones. She shivered slightly and continued her walk. The ground was frozen yet there was a significant lack of snow. Crystal loved it when it snowed, it always reminded her of her favorite fairy tale that her mother would always red to her and her sister Kate. Her mother told them of the prankster Jack Frost who would bring the snow of winter during the night if they were good children, but she knew that it was only a bribe. She sighed sadly; out of all the days she had walked home she never so much as caught a glimpse of Jack himself. Her home came into view and she noticed that her parents' vehicles were missing from the driveway. Probably out again, or still working, she thought to herself as she slowly opened the door.

Everyday since winter started she had walked home from school wishing that it would snow. Much to her dismay, it never did. She walked up to her room and flopped onto her bed. There was a tapping on her window, but when she looked, there was nothing there. She ran back outside to see if a bird had ran into her window, but instead saw the first snowfall of winter. Crystal smiled and laughed while she ran around in the quickly falling snow. A cold gust of wind then blew around her, only it sounded like a voice.

"Do you really like my snow that much?" a male voice asked as another breeze blew past her. She stopped, scared.

"W-who said that?" she looked around frantically but only saw snowflakes.

"You can hear me?" the voice said again, closer than before. She turned and saw a boy that was about her age with silvery white hair, beautiful blue eyes, a dark blue hoodie with snow on it, light brown pants, no shoes, and carried a staff that curved at the top with blue markings.

"Who are you?" she asked again, trying to sound brave.

The boy laughed, "You already know from that book of yours. You even have my page bookmarked. It's really sweet."

Crystal's face turned bright red, "Y-you're Jack Frost?"

Jack bowed, "The one and only!" Crystal could feel her head begin to spin and her vision blurred. She started to fall backwards onto the ground and blacked out.
