Drip. Drip. Drip. Drip.

The ocean's captivating scent wafted through the town, wrapping it in a blanket of cold.
The dark night crept closer, the sun slowly setting as a myriad of colours swept the sky

"Gee, it's real chilly out" a voice called. The voice belonging to a small blue and red fox named lucky.

Lucky stared up at the sky, his tail wagging.
"Y'know, sometimes i wonder what i might do in the future....but...i dont really know...". He looked down, his muzzle and ears drooping as he spoke.

Another voice piped up.
"The future is merely something that is unable to be controlled. To gain a good future one must ride the tidal wave of life instead of kicking and screaming their way through"

Lucky seemed merely puzzled by this statement, but as he went to ask, the strange figure merely disappeared.

And he woke up.

Lucky rubbed his eyes as he slowly put on his blue shorts and black shirt.
He wagged his tail as he hummed a short melody. Today feels like a good day.

Without hesitation, lucky made his way towards the harbour, the multitude of boats was a pleasant sight to behold for the  fox and he was incredibly happy.

"Yarrrr, lucky lad, ye be smilin as usual" a gruff voice spoke up. "Yarr, me name be captain velgar of the south."

Lucky wagged his tail. "Hello mr velgar sir, my name is lucky northstar and i am new here!". Lucky held his paw out to shake, and captain velgar returned the gesture with a heart laugh.

"Nice to meet you my lad. Say, i never thought i'd be training a rookie" captain velgar smiled. "Yarrr, y'know, Ye be well known already around these parts"

Captain velgar smiled and gestured towards an opaque white boat floating on the icy blue water behind him.
"Hop in!"

Lucky jumped into the boat without hesitation, his ears twitching as he tapped his foot on the ground repeatedly.
"So what's my first step? Do i need to pass a test? Is it normal to feel slightly nervous in situations like this?"

Velgar smiled, which eased the fox's nerves. "It's perfectly normal my dear boy. But you mustn't feel afraid the great outdoors! I mean, you're a fox. Don't they like to jump around and play all day?" He asked, his tone turning sour, although lucky didn't notice.  "Outdoors i mean"

Lucky simply tilted his head in confusion.
"Um...i don't play all day sir, i like to draw! I do lie in lavender fields and gaze up at the sky though! It's rather relaxing! You should try it sometime sir!" He smiled.

"You're quite different from the others" captain velgar laughed, looking back at the harbour with a smile.

"Huh?" Lucky asked, tilting his head quizzically.
Captain velgar chuckled at this.
"I think i'll keep you around".
He immediately followed this up with a silent "for now"

Lucky didn't hear that last part, as he was too busy swinging his legs and staring out at the icy blue ocean. He wagged his tail nervously before he spoke up again
"So ummm....what's it like being a pirate?" He asked

"Why Ye be wantin to know? Yer not pirate material" captain veglar Passive aggressively asked, banging his hook on the wheel somewhat aggressively.

Lucky didn't seem to notice this, and with a wag of his tail he excitedly replied
"Well i just wanted to know what pirates do and stuff!"
Lucky excitedly began to do a pirate impression, wagging his tail excitedly, not noticing the disinterest on captain velgar's face.

"Yarrrr, I be hearin of  their adventures and i be wantin to know if they ring true" he giggled as he said this, his eyes sparkling.

Captain velgar facepalmed, and with a small snarl replied with:
"If you keep this up ye be walkin the plank!"
