When he was little, Tanjiro was rescued by a man named Muzan Kibutsuji. Ever since he was rescued, Tanjiro had sworn repay Muzan. This came to fruition when Sunako was born.

Pseudo demon Muzan had tried transforming Tanjiro, but the process didn't work, resulting in a pseudo demon. Tanjiro was able to go out into the sun, had a minor healing/regeneration ability, and can utilize a hybrid form of breathing and a Blood Demon Art called Blood Breathing.
Nezuko Kamado

Human After surviving an attack that had killed her family and made her brother go missing, Nezuko swore to find her brother and kill the demon who had destroyed her family. Nezuko uses an offshoot of water breathing that changes the water into something like gasoline that will explode in certain breathing styles. This is called Explosion Breathing (not to be confused with Fire or Sun breathing).

Half-Demon Sunako is a hybrid between a demon and a human. As such, she had special traits of both sides. Unfortunately, these traits won't manifest until Sunako is older, so she is practically entirely human. Muzan knows better, and Tanjiro suspects it, but everyone else is none the wiser.
That's all of the character switcharoo-ing that I will do. The name Sunako means 'dark side' btw. Guess which parent gave her the name?
