"This is the worst birthday ever." Henrietta declared to no one. The carriage ride was far from over and the woodland scenery that so many had raved about had gotten old hours ago. She looked longingly at the silhouette of her old home. She'd much rather be there than going to Auriean. The much bigger kingdom next door had two princes in need of wives and, unfortunately for her, her father decided she was the right fit.
Her father, King Roland of Soulean, had made this deal years ago, but didn't tell his daughter until the day before her birthday. Henrietta wanted to argue. She wanted to go against her father's wishes and run away to her kingdoms cost and live there instead. The only thing stopping her was her mother. Her mother, Queen Eva, was very ill and just wanted her to behave for once.
So, she packed her things, wished her family and friends goodbye and was on her way. Before she could leave her sister, Octavia, gave her an orange cat with green eyes to keep her company. She named him Bruce. Behave was her only friend on this long trip.
She sighed sadly and slumped on the window. The only sight for miles was still trees. The only new development was that she could see the top of the castle she was headed to. It was then she realized that she knew nothing about her new husband. Her father had given her a tiny portrait of him but she didn't look at it. It's was the only was she could still defy him.
All she knew was that he was the youngest and that his name was Oliver. She hoped he wasn't a complete jerk, but that's only a 50/50 chance in these circumstances. She sighed again. She was getting curious about what he looked like. "No!" She thought "I am not looking at the portrait!" She scolded. So, she continued to look out at the same, old, trees until she fell asleep.
