Glum and despondency pervaded the atmosphere of the Roy Choudhary haveli. It appeared as if happiness has forgotten to turn up at their door once again. Silent tears made their ways to their eyes; hidden and suppressed emotions mutinied to come out, as their last hope of happiness, lied on the bed completely lustreless. Her face was devoid of any colour. Tear tracks glistened in the corners of her eyes. All in all, her appearance was devastating and it grieved the RC's more than anything else to think that all of it had happened right under their nose and they could do nothing to save her from that monster.
A sniffling Bela, whose eyes were fixed at an unconscious Bondita, tugged at Anirudh's kurta to grab his attention towards herself.
"Hmm?" he asked, bending down to reach her level.
"Boudi -- ko -- kya hua?" she sniffed, "Wo uth -- uth -- kyun nhi rhi?"
Anirudh sighed in answer. He wiped away her tears with his fingers and standing upright, turned towards Doctor Dutta, who was examining Bondita.
"Doctor, Bondita achnak behosh kaise hogyi thi?" he questioned, "Sab theek hai na?"
"Haan Anirudh." he replied, keeping the medicines carefully back in his kit again. "Ghabrane wali koyi baat nhi hai. Lekin wo -- " he hesitated for a moment, before continuing again, "Haatha payi mein inko jo chote lagi hain wo gehri thi. Khoon bhi bohot beh chuka tha aur inki energy poori drain ho chuki thi, isiliye kamzori ke chalte ye behosh hogyi."
"Humari bahu theek toh ho jayegi na Dactar babu?" Trilochan interrupted, his forehead tensing in concern.
Dr. Dutta blinked at him before replying with a reassuring smile,
"Ji Jomindaar babu. Aapki bahu bilkul theek ho jayegi." he continued, "Bas aap inka dhyaan rakhiyega. Ghar ke kaam --"
"Wo Koyali aur Bihari dekh lenge." Kaka cut across him in the middle, swaying his hand offhandedly.
Dr. Dutta continued to smile, as he walked up to them.
"Khana aur dawayiyan waqt par dijiyega." he paused and this time, spoke to Anirudh particularly, "Inhe uss incident ke baare mein zyada sochne mat dijiyega. Jitna inka mann uss baat se bhatka rhe, utna achcha hai."
Anirudh nodded at him in agreement.
"Abhi ke liye unhe aaram karne dijiye." he advised. "Theek hai toh abb main chalta hoon." he folded his hands and walked past them, followed by Anirudh and Trilochan, as they left a sleeping Bondita in her room.
"Koyali bahu ke saath rehna." ordered Trilochan, before pursuing their trail downstairs, also accompanied by Bela, who kept holding his hand, still sniffling.
As Anirudh reached the main door, to see off the doctor, he was stopped by a pat on his shoulder by him.
Dr. Dutta, with a grave look on his face, looked around to ensure that they were out of Trilochan's earshot, before dropping his voice low and whispering to Anirudh in private,
"Ek aur baat hai Anirudh"
Anirudh understood the seriousness of his tone and instantly nodded his head, prompting him to continue.
"Bondita ke saath jo kuch bhi hua hai," there was a reluctancy in his voice, "wo bohot zyada traumatic hai. Aise mein usey apni family ki, specially tumhare support ki bohot zaroorat hogi. What you've to do is, make her feel that everything's still normal. Usey ye nhi lagna chahiye ki kuch bhi badla hai."
