Cunning was only a word for Sahil until he got a call from his so called fiance the very next morning. Her high pitched voice made him shudder, his mood clearly ruined. Tossing the bed sheet off his naked chest, he sat up straight, the phone still next to his ears.
"Babe..." it felt like she was crying, or rather trying to cry. Unimpressed Sahil yawned, his eyes checking the time. It was nine o'clock, the latest he had ever woken up.
"Yes Diya." He said acknowledging her presence over the other side of the phone. God she was so clingy sometimes.
"I don't think we c-can work this out anymore Sahil." Her voice had a bit of her American accent kicking in, a whine escaping her lips. Confused, really confused, Sahil now came back to his senses, recovering from his sleepy mood.
"My ex, he is back and wants me back. I really like you babe, but I have never really moved on from him." Sahil was amused at that. Diya's ex was America's top billionaire. The man's name itself screamed money. No wonder she 'never moved on from him'.
He knew where this conversation was going. He knew that she was going to call of their engagement, his chance to get hold of the R&M blowing off before he could even try. He waited to hear the magic words from her and she finally did say it.
"Let's end it here. I will speak to my dad." Hearing that Sahil waited no longer. He hung up, throwing his phone to the bed in frustration. Letting out a scream into the void like he always did to cool off his anger, he stood up running his hands through his hair. He was anxious about what he was going to do next.
As if on cue, his phone rang again, the usual annoying ringtone ringing like sirens in his ears. He first decided to ignore it but the annoying device wouldn't stop. Tired, he took it not caring to see the caller ID.
"Yes?" His voice was hoarse, and annoyed. He was never a morning person and what just happened a while ago topped his discomfort.
"Oh my! The great CEO is still in bed? I thought you were an early riser." The feminine voice was laced with mockery, that Sahil knew too well. He removed the phone from his ears, checking the screen to see who the caller was. But it was an unknown number.
"Who the hell are you?" He raised his voice at the woman who dared to call him early up in the morning when he wasn't clearly in a good mood.
"I'm hurt Mr.Malhotra. We just met yesterday and you forgot me so easily?" A fake gasp of surprise was also heard from the other side. Sahil clenched his jaws tightly, realising who the owner of the voice was.
Inayat Qureshi.
"You have ten seconds to speak what you want until I hang up." He said, now making his way to brush his teeth. He was already late and today was going to be a long day. He had already planned a really loving gift for the Qureshis.
"One." He started his countdown.
"Wait wait. I just called to ask if you liked my gift. Diya Raichand is one stupid girl." She laughed, the sound adding fuel to Sahil's already flaming heart.
"It was you?"
"Of course but I do tell you, her ex-boyfriend was hard to convince but at last he just couldn't resist my charms." She spoke with so much pride that all Sahil wanted to do was wrap his hands around her throat and chock her to death.
"So you've opened your legs for the American man as well, huh?" It was now his time to mock back, as it surely hit it's target because he didn't hear anything from her for a while. That confirmed his suspicion. She did sleep with the man too. At this point he wondered whether she got STDs or not.
"Alright your time is up. I'm hanging up. Oh...and I have prepared an awesome gift for you in return. It will soon be delivered." With that he hung up, not caring to listen to her reply. Knowing her character, she must be screaming like a crazy bitch, cursing his name.
He knew her very well. She was one of those posh girls who had everything done at her feet, who was pampered so much by her family. After all she was the only girl child in her generation and that was why, the entire company was transferred to her name just when she turned eighteen. Although she did huge contributions in raising the fame and name of the Qureshis, it was all because of her body. She seduced and destroyed business men, tearing their family apart until they gave their companies and shares to her in return. She was good at covering up her fake self before the media as well. The people praised her as the hardworking business woman of this era.
She was in fact hardworking, not with her brains though, but with her vagina.
After showering, and dressing up into his usual three piece attire, Sahil sat in front of the dining table, where he had nothing but a piece of toasted bread and orange juice for breakfast. As a man who lived alone with no knowledge of cooking, instant food and take outs were his only options. Just as he bit onto the tasteless wheat loaf, his mind reminded him of his mother's cooking. The tasty dishes she made for him and the way he savoured it. He wanted to to drop by, ask her to make his favorite dishes, but was too scared to face the looks of disappointment of his family.
They all had high expectations for him, which he ruined by his reckless behaviour in his early adult stage. It was like he wanted to show the world that he was nothing like the person they thought he was, when in reality he was turning into one. Getting drunk, punching anyone that bad mouthed his family, driving too fast, having one night stands with strangers- the list was endless. Sometimes he himself cringed at the things he did in his early twenties.
Quickly brushing off those thoughts, he picked up his car keys, taking the elevator to reach downstairs. He lived in a apartment, one reserved only for him. He was the CEO of a company that was broke and would soon shut down. He had to take matters into his hands and do things quickly before the people who worked for his family all these years, lose their jobs.
_________
Sahil stared at the two story high building located at the middle of the city, the centre of attraction. The name board was a fancy one which would soon be lit up with LED lights as soon the restaurant starts service.
Qureshi's Inn. The sign read.
A day to go until the inauguration. A day to go until Inayat once again proves to the world that she is an articulate CEO and a beauty with brains. But Sahil had other plans and wished to change the title that would pop up on newspapers and magazines tomorrow. One that would make her bow her head in shame to the world.
With a smirk, Sahil exited his car, making his way towards the restaurant-- dream project for Inayat which he would soon crumble down to nothing but pieces.
Three chapters in one day Uff!!!
Is this book boring than the first one? Because I'm not getting the response I expected from you all.
As you can see the tropes of this book will mainly be enemies to lovers and that will be slow paced.
Please do comment and vote. Tell me what you look forward to see between them? Also Inayat and Sahil are the main characters of the book, but there will be more interesting side characters and love stories coming your way. Please be patient.
