The next few days passed by in utter silence. I avoided the men in my family the best I could and even when we crossed path at some points, it was in eerie silence. It's like the air got thinner everyone time my father and I shared a room for just a second as the surrounding itself screamed anguish on my behalf.
I never again saw Aarav after that day but heard his name a few times from Papa when he patiently talked on the phone.
Besides the random mentions of his name, one thing kept him tangled in my thoughts. The last words he spoke before he walked out.
'Stand your ground if you truly desire something, Inaana. Fight to only back down later is useless.'
It might seem just a bunch of mere words, but it weighs so much in my mind and for some unknown reasons I feel it's the same with him.
A knock on my bedroom's door jolts me out of my thoughts and before I could frown, Ruby's soothing voice comes, "Ina, you coming for dinner?"
I open my door with a smile which grows into a grin at the sight of her, "Let's g-"
A ping on my phone cuts me off and I take it out from my jeans back pocket.
Unknown: Got a job offer for you.
My eyebrows pinch together at the screen.
"Be there in a minute, Ruby." I say to Ruby with a smile which she returns with genuine care before nodding and leaving me with a strange text.
Me: Who's this?
I bite my lower lip with impatience as I wait for an answer. The reply is almost immediate.
Unknown: Who do you think know about your pathetic job situation?
What? How? Shit! My mind freeze exactly like the way my fingers do on the keypad.
Aarav.
I gather my shits together as I normalise my pounding heart and over functioning brain.
Unknown: Aarav, if you still didn't catch that.
Me: How did you get my number?
Aarav: Not important.
Aarav: Got a good offer.Me: Why should I trust you?
Aarav: Because of all the people, I happen to be only one who actually hears you.
I close my eyes as I give my head a soft shake.
Me: What is it?
Aarav: Be an employee in my office. There's a job vacancy. You can check on our company's website. Pay is negotiable.
Not important.
Me: Okay.
Aarav: Okay?
Aarav: Seriously?
Aarav: I'm offering you a fucking job, Inaana. Wasn't that what you wanted? A damn job!God, even through texts I can sense how rude and bossy he is. Not that I can't handle it but it's still mean.
I bite on my lower lip nervously as I type honestly.
Me: Papa wouldn't let me do it.
I sigh at the thought that I just opened up a bit to him and I don't regret it. I usually think a zillion times before giving a piece of my originality and honesty to someone. And it's supposed to be the same with him too, but it's not. Why? Weird!
