A/N: I hope you are all enjoying it! I'm thinking of extending the story, or making a sequel, which do you all want?
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, that's J.K. Rowling.
I raced into my dorm and slammed the door behind me. Marching over to my bed, I plopped face down onto my pillows and let out a muffled groan of frustration and anger. How could she do that to me? She was worried about the games I was playing? While dropping me immediately for some quidditch star who she has NOTHING in common with. That oaf couldn't even say her name right.
"Rough night?" Blaise asked, coming to sit on the edge of my four poster bed. I rolled over and looked up at him.
"You have no idea," I said, letting out a defeated sigh. "Granger said yes to going to the Yule Ball with Krum. I overheard them talking in one of the corridors."
"But didn't she already say yes to you?" He asked confused. I nodded, my expression angered.
"Yep. But I guess when she got asked by a professional Quidditch player, she just couldn't resist," I scoffed, rolling my eyes. Merlin, I was so naive to even think this would ever work out.
"Don't worry mate. How's about you ask Parkinson? It will make Granger jealous, plus it'll give you a relatively hot date," Blaise suggested. I pondered his suggesiton before slowly nodding in agreement. It wasn't a bad idea at all.
"I guess so," I replied. "I'll ask her first thing tomorrow. Good night Blaise. Thanks for the advice by the way." I gave him a small smile.
"No problem mate, see you in the morning." And with that, he walked over to his bed and closed the curtain, welcoming sleep. I closed mine and tried to stop my racing thoughts. How could she do this to me? I was going to make her hurt for this, that much I was certain of.
I rolled onto my side, closed my eyes, and fell into an uneasy sleep.
The next morning:
"Good morning Malfoy!" Granger said to me cheerfully. She was sitting at her usual place at the Gryffindor table, with a plate full of toast, potatoes and ham. I ignored her completely and went to sit beside Blaise and Pansy.
Turning towards Pansy, I gave her a debonair smile and asked her relatively loudly, "Pansy, do you have a date to the ball?" She gaped at me and then looked over at Blaise. Blaise shrugged acting just as surprised, while Pansy's face lit up with glee. I glanced over to the next table and Granger looking at me with a hurt expression. You don't think I was hurt too?!
"I would love to Draco!" Pansy squealed. She hugged me and then turned and started talking about dresses and make-up with Astoria. I planted a self satisfied smrik across my face, despite being still so upset by Granger's actions.
I glanced at her again and she was talking with Krum. He whispered something in her ear and I heard her giggle. I rolled my eyes and gave Blaise an annoyed expression.
"You okay mate?" He looked at me with a knowing, thoughtful expression. I simply nodded in reply.
"Hey guys, I'm not hungry. I'm just going to head back to the common room," I said, standing up.
"See you down there," they chimed in unison.
I marched out of the Great Hall and was going down the first set of moving stairs when I felt someone tug on my arm. I stopped, turned and then yanked my arm out of their grasp.
"Malfoy!" She said indignantly. "What is up with you today? You ignored me in the Great Hall and now Pansy's your date to the ball?" The brunette witch stood before me, her face dark with anger.
"You really want to know what's "up" with me?" I huffed back at her. She held her ground and glared up at me, crossing her arms across her chest.
"Yes I do want to know. So tell me," She fumed.
"Because, I asked you to the Yule Ball. And then, you went behind my back and accepted some international quidditch player with the IQ of a troll!" I said angrily. I turned and stormed down the stairs, slowly descending towards the dungeon. It was eerily quiet down there, since it was a Sunday and there were no classes.
"What are you talking about?" Granger huffed, jogging to keep up with my long strides.
"You didn't think I would find out about your secret rendezvous with Krum last night?" I asked her scowling. I stopped in my tracks and looked down at her. Her face looked up at me with confusion.
"Last night?" She asked me.
"Oh, there were other secret rendezvous?" I growled. Letting my voice dip into a note of snarkiness.
"No! He was there just waiting for me. He asked me if I wanted to go to the Yule ball with him and I said that I would love to, but, I already had a date!" She said glaring at me. I rolled my eyes. Surely she was lying since she had been caught in the act.
"I'm sure you did. Well now, you can have Krum. I asked Pansy and we're going together," I said smugly. I turned and continued walking towards my dormitory.
From behind me, I heard a faintly mumbled, "You really think I would say yes to anyone else?"
"Well, you seem to have a thing for famous people and quidditch players," I called over my shoulder towards her. "Goodbye Granger. I hope you have a nice night with Viktor." I snarled out his name, and turned the corner before hearing her response.
When I got to my common room, I slammed the door shut and flopped down on the black leather couch near the fireplace. Blaise came in about thirty minutes later and plopped down onto a chair beside me.
"We could hear you in the Great Hall you know. You guys are all anyone is talking about right now," He said, gazing over at my defeated self.
"Well, I don't care what people say," I growled, avoiding making eye contact with him.
"Good. Because rumor is that Granger had gotten you something for Christmas and that shortly after your fight, she smashed it into a million pieces," He said, grimacing.
"Where did you hear that?" I inquired, sitting up to look at him.
"Well Weasley's sister told Pavarti, who told Lavender, who obviously spread it like wildfire. You know how she is," he said, rolling his eyes.
"You don't think I got her something too?" I asked him. I summoned my red wrapped present for her and opened the box after removing the wrapping paper. In the box, was the blue earrings that Granger had been looking at yesterday when we went shopping. I had asked Dobby to get them for me yesterday evening. I had had such a good feeling being with her shopping yesterday, it just felt like the right thing to do.
"Wow," Blaise said whistling. "Then why did you give her up? As I said, we all heard you two."
"Because I was mad and jealous. Despite everything, I really liked her Blaise. I put my whole heart out for her last night, just for her to step on it behind my back." I explained, groaning and leaning back into the cushions.
"Well, it sounds like she really did tell Krum she wouldn't go with him. I heard through the same source I mentioned earlier that she had set him up with one of her Gryffindor friends, before you asked Pansy to the ball that is," he looked at me, trying to gauge my reaction.
"Shit," I scowled, regretting everything. I should have trusted her. I also shouldn't have reacted as rashly as I did. Now she was surely gone forever. I punched a pillow on the couch in frustration.
"It's alright mate. You'll get her back and I will help you do that."
