Chapter 2

Clover's POV

SCHOOL IS THE GREATEST THING EVER. Let me clarify.

So, our teachers are all females, and they're all super nice, and Miss Manser and Miss Guitart are super really great! I really felt happy here, and didn't want this to end! But it did..ish

Annabelle's POV

So far, school has been pretty great. We are starting our second week and it's been fun, apart from that girl in history. I've heard that someone from our old school is starting today. I'm not too sure how to feel about that since some people at that school were nice, but more were horrible.

I get to school and walk around for a bit since I was a little early. I'd only met up with Clo this morning because Molly went in early and I'm pretty sure Dinah was late.

While I'm walking around I see someone I thought I'd never see again.

Mackenzie.

She used to be my friend years ago at our old school. That all changed when I met Clo, Di and Molly. I realized she was a controlling, brainwashing bully.

I try and stay out of her sight and attempt to get to the music room. I failed.
"Hey girl! How ya been? It's been like, so long!" I stop in my tracks. She runs over to me and hugs me.
"What do you want?"
"Now now. You don't talk to your best friend like that, do you?"
"Best friend?" I laughed. "You were a bully. I'm glad I got out of that "friendship" when I did."
"That's how you remember me? Wow... those girls really did brainwash you."
"What?"
"They're clearly putting those thoughts in your head." She tapped my forehead. "They're controlling you. You changed so much when you started talking to them. I tried to save you but I couldn't. Maybe I could try again now."
"No. They aren't like that. They are good friends. Something you never were."
"See! This is how they are making you. I was your best friend. Then you started talking to them and changed." I roll my eyes and walk away. What she said stays with me though. My brain starts obsessing over those words.

I go into the music room and pick up one of the guitars. Lyrics for a song pop into my head so I grab my notebook and write them in. I strum along and hum the lyrics. I end up writing enough lyrics for a full song. I play through it and sing all the lyrics. I say the last line and play one last chord. I jump when I hear applause at the door. I turn and see Nat and Vicki.
"Sorry." I mumble.
"Why are you sorry? That was amazing! Did you write that?" Nat asks and I nod.
"You've got a great talent for writing songs. We were just on our way to the auditions for the musical this year. Do you wanna audition?"
"Oh, no thanks. I don't sing in front of people. You two were some of the first to ever hear me."
"You are great, so maybe consider auditioning next year if you get your confidence up." I nod and they leave.

I get up and leave to head to my lesson. I see Mackenzie in the hallway and keep my head down. I see her smile at me. What if I am being brainwashed? No, stop. Think about it though. I did change when they came along. Changed for the better. Right? You tell me. 

I go to history but struggle to focus more than usual. At the end of the lesson, Maiya keeps me back.
"Am I in trouble?"
"No. I just wanted to know what's up with you."
"What?"
"You've clearly been acting different. Something's happened."
"Nothing's happened." She gives me a look as if to say "I can tell you're lying."
I sigh and say "Fine, there's this girl from my old school who's coming here now and I'm just thinking about something she said. We used to be friends so we've been talking a little."
"What did she say?"
"Umm... just if we could be friends again."
"Do you want to be friends?"
"I'm not sure yet."
"Well, give it a think through, but don't let it take over you. You probably should go to the next lesson now." I say goodbye to her then head to my next lesson. I see Mackenzie around school a few times throughout the day. At lunch I sit with Di, Clo and Molly and I try to act as normal as possible. Then they started talking about Mackenzie, and Dinah said something that happened earlier with her, so I faked a laugh. I don't think anyone noticed that I was a little off today.
