"Should I get it?" Asked Renèe, tearing at the skin on her bottom lip. In her hands was a slim silver chain, with a rough cut moonstone dangling from the necklace.
"I don't know..." said Jenny, hunched it a corner, pouring over some amber necklaces encased in glass, "because although it would complement your dress," Renèe was going in a pastel green dress that matched her eyes, "it does cost a bit more."
Renèe nodded sadly, and put the necklace back on it's stand. She knew that she had been pushing the price tag a little.
"How about the smaller one?" Jenny suggested, gesturing to the smaller, but identical necklace next to Renèe.
"Good idea!" Renèe brightened, taking the box over to the attendant. "And by the way Jenny, you would look really great in the gold and silver one, over there!" She pointed to a silver chain, with an amber deep set, rimmed with gold.
Jenny rushed over to the boxing the other side of the store, where she smiled over her shoulder at her friend.
"Thanks Renèe! It will go with my dress!" She smiled shyly at her friend, who was already trying the necklace on.
She gently lifted the gold necklace out of the box and secured the clasp behind her neck. It hung in the in the base of her throat, glinting in the sunlight.
When Jenny looked at the price tag however, she winced.
"Too expensive though." She sighed, putting the heavy necklace back on the pouch it was standing on.
"If you like, Ma'am, I can show you the necklace in solid silver, with no gold? It's cheaper, if you like." The store attendant had turned his head from Renèe and called over to Jenny.
"Really? That would be lovely! Thank you so much!" From underneath the counter, the brown haired man produced a simple black box, long and elegant. Jenny smiled gratefully at the man.
With a snap, the box opened, revealing a silver necklace, set with an amber like honey, and rimmed with glinting silver.
"A large amber, set with a ring of sterling silver, and the chain a solid silver. Price: seventy dollars." The man recited quickly.
"We'll take it!" Jenny grabbed the box and quickly paid the cashier, "Thanks for your help!" She called over her shoulder as the two girls walked out the door.
