TRIS’ POV

Last night, Max took me to the ChicagoHQ. I stayed at his and his wife’s, who I have come to know as Tori, apartment in their spare bedroom. He said he would have Tori show me around.

I wake up and grab an outfit from my backpack. Which contains black leggings, a black long sleeve shirt, and combat boots.

I keep it simple with the make up, that Tori let me use, and apply clear lipgloss, eyeliner, and mascara.

I walk out of the bathroom and into the living room to see Tori and Max up with breakfast made.

“Hey, guys,” I say sitting down next to Max at the island.

“Hi, Tris. Tour starts after breakfast,” Tori smiles. I nod. She puts a plate in front of me. Breakfast is eggs, bacon, and pancakes with syrup. I dig in.

In the next ten minutes, I’m done with breakfast.

“I’m just going to use the bathroom and then we can start,” Tori says. I nod and sit on the couch.

I learned that Max is the director at the LA HQ but he was sent down here to help with my parent’s case. He has to leave in a couple of weeks, but by then I’ll be settled and maybe even have this place.

Tori comes out from the bathroom and smiles.

“Alright, let’s get a move on,” she says. I nod and stand up. We walk out the door into the hallway.

She leads me down the hall.

We get to a big open space.

Since the HQ is underground, you hardly see any light, except for the ‘street’ lights.

“This is the Pit, where you will get everything you need. From furniture, to clothes, to accessories, everything,” she says.

“Okay,” I say.

She starts to walk so I follow.

We get to a metal bridge that’s over a very deep lake, type of thing.

I see the actual ground ends at a sharp drop.

Roaring water hits the sharp rocks at the very bottom.

“This, is called the chasm!” Tori yells over the roar of the water.

She walks and I follow.

She goes up stairs and I do the same.

We end up on a glass floor over looking the Pit and Chasm. I look down and take a deep breath.

You will not fall through. I say to myself.

She walks into a hall.

She opens a door labeled ‘CONTROL CENTER’.

We walk in and all I see is computers, computers, and more computers.

I see people walking and people behind computers.

“This, is the control room. Where we keep surveillance on the city and in the HQ. Like see, this one sees your school,” she points to a screen and everyone is walking around.

“All of our teenage agents are at your school right now, acting like normal teenagers,” she says. I nod. “I’m sure you’ll meet them later,” I nod again.

She walks out the door with me following.

“Now, it’s the end of the tour. All you need to know is that, yes we do pay for things, but its called credits. Each year, you get 100 credits, so today is December 16, 2014, so next year on December 16, you will earn 100 credits,” she explains. I nod. “And that’s all you need to know for now,” she smiles.
