(Kai’s POV)
I grab my bag and quickly rush out of the house as shouts from my father can be heard from his room. I rush to school then to my locker stuffing it with books I won’t be needing for my first few classes. I rush into my first class and sit at the very back away from everyone else and away from prying eyes, a new student walks in and I immediately lower my head. The student comes over and sits in the seat next to me. “Hi, I’m Adrian” he says with a smile, I look up slightly my hair covering my face. “K..Kai..” I reply. He smiles “Kai, I like it”. I lower my head and turn back to the front when more students start pilling in.
When the class ends I wait for all the students to leave before I get up to leave, I notice the new student still in his seat his head down on the desk. Thinking he is sleeping I nudge him slightly and say quietly “Umm.. i..its lunch..” he looks up at me “I know” he says short and sharp. “O..oh s..sorry” I say quietly before rushing out the room.
I go sit outside under a large tree away from where anyone sits at lunch, I grab out a book and my lunch and sit reading as I eat ignoring the world around me. “Hello there Kai” I hear from up in the tree, I look up finding the new student up in the tree “Uh.. h..hi..”. He jumps down from the tree and kneels next to me “Why are you so timid?” he asks, I just stay silent not answering him. Before he can say anything else my brother walks up, I lower my head letting the hair fall down covering my face. He turns to Adrian “Can I talk to my sister alone for a minute?” Adrian nods and puts his headphones in putting his music on loud, I could even hear it.
My brother turns to me “Have you got it?” he snaps at me “I..I haven’t h..h..had time t..to do it y..yet” I tremble out he glares “You are going to get it when we get home” he then storms off and I keep my head down. “What haven’t you got?” Adrian asks me, I look up at him surprised he had heard that over his music “Y..you heard th..that?” “Yes” he replies simply. “So what don’t you have?” he asks me again slightly more demanding this time “His h..homew..work..” I reply “Why are you doing his homework?” he asks me. “B..because o..otherwise he.. he will..” I look down again my hair falling down covering my face and falling from my neck showing a dark horrible bruise.
I think I hear a growl come from Adrian but I am unsure about it, he grabs out his laptop and turns to me “What was his assessment about?” “Umm the h..human b..body..” I reply quietly, Adrian starts typing away on his computer extremely fast. Adrian puts the laptop down next to me and rushes off somewhere, I watch after him confused as to what’s happening till he comes back and hands me a printed assessment on the human body. “th..thank you” I get up and go over to where my brother usually sits at lunch with his mates. I walk over to him my head down and I hand out the assessment to him “H..here” he looks at me quizzically “What is this?” he asks me snatching it from my hands “Y..your h..homew..work” I reply. “So you lied to me?” he snaps at me, his arm goes up to strike me and I flitch putting my arms up to protect me. I hear the impact but don’t feel it and I look up to see Adrian had caught my brother’s fist. He twists it round, near breaking point, my brother crying out in pain “Haven’t you learnt that you shouldn’t strike females?” my brother just glares at Adrian. Adrian lets his arm go and my brother gives me a look that says you’re so dead before storming off.
