One.
Axl and Saul were on another walk, this time with their hands intertwined with one anothers.
The weather around them was slowly changing, leaves turning from green and bright to orange and brown, crunching under their feet as they walked.
They had been hanging around eachother every day, and if Saul was to be quite frank, it had been some of the best days he had experienced.
It didn't matter where they went, they always found something to do.
Just yesterday they had found a leaf pile that had been swept up along the path through the woods they often took, and had immediately jumped in it, leaves of all colors swirling around them as they laughed and stared up at the sky without a care in the world, their hands laced together and gently squeezing.
Saul would be the first one to admit, the summer had flown by with Axl next to him, and he didn't think he would trade it for anything.
Axl stops Saul's train of thought, his eyes straying to where his hand was being raised to Axl's mouth, a gentle kiss being pressed to the back of it before the redhead asked "What are you thinking so hard about?"
Saul smiles easily, knowing the words in his head were already on the tip of his tongue before he just grins and kisses Axl in the middle of the changing season.
"Nothing."
Two.
Axl didn't exactly know when his heart had opened for Saul, the man easily making a home inside like it was nothing.
But he knew the first time that he knew the words were in his head, and he had almost blurted them out, before he had almost bitten his tongue in half.
The concerned look that Saul gave him, the flowers that he had shown up to Axl's house with still clutched in his grip, made Axl smile as he pulled Saul inside, their twinkling laughs following them down the hallway, with the words still spinning in Axl's head, waiting to be let out in the open.
Three.
The time that Saul was going to say those three words, were of course when they were outside, and it had started storming, Axl quickly sliding off his own jacket to slide it over Saul, his curls getting soaked to his face.
Axl had looked at him, soaked to the bone already, but he slowly lifted his hand to Saul's face, gently moving the curls out of his face before looking into his eyes, and the words were about to come out of his mouth.
But of course before they could, a sound of thunder came from overhead, Axl's gaze was directed to the sky before he cursed and had grabbed Saul's hand and they were off on a run to get back to the house and before Saul knew it, the opportunity had slipped away.
Four.
The time that Axl was planning to say the words, it was a sunny day, once again the leaves crunching under their shoes as they gathered a pile of leaves, Saul insisting they jump into a pile of them again.
It was when Axl saw Saul jump into the pile, his eyes twinkling and his smile as bright as the sun, the leaves spinning around them in brilliant colors of browns and reds, that the words were on the tip of his tongue.
But before he could get them out, they both heard a yell.
"Axl! Saul! Come help me with this." Came the voice of Saul's mother, which stole the opportunity right out from under Axl's nose, but he knew it wouldn't be long before the words would spill over.
As he watched Saul run ahead of him, he was already saying the words under his breath, only to be carried away in the autumn wind.
Five.
They had been out on the lake, just sitting on the dock with their feet in the water, when Axl had decided to push Saul in, which made Saul yank Axl in.
It wasn't a good idea for him to be that close when he just shoved someone in a lake anyway.
They had laughed, their heads thrown back to the sky, both soaked with water and now looking at eachother with smiles on their faces.
Axl's hands had drifted to Saul's face, gently pulling him so there was only a few centimeters between their lips.
In that space, the words slipped out easily, from both of their mouths for the first time.
"I love you."
That wasn't going to be the last time the words were said, and they both knew.
There were many more to come.
