I awoke to the sound of rain as I slowly sat on the bed, then as I stood up exited. This is the first time it has rained in months. I ran out of the room still dressed in my sleep wear and headed towards the gates, then I burst out laughing and looked up to the sky, my face got all wet, not that I minded, but this time I savored the feel and taste of the water. I noticed some of the younger kids looked at me in question, some of the others joined in, it was not often, and people tended to stick closer during this occurring moments, it was like a gift in a way, since this occurred so rarely people started to somewhat celebrate this, in what the older people would call Christmas, after the war most people forgot their roots and traditions, making new ones instead, so I just took this all in, because this was as much freedom as we could get.
“Rachel!” called out Jonas as we ran towards me, Lily not far behind.
“Yes Jonas?” I replied while smiling at the pair, the almost always where together, it was truly adorable.
“Its raining!” he said enthusiastically
“Why yes, it is, come on lets run around” I said jogging a bit, this was the usual thing we did when rain came, this rain though was even more special, it was not hard and cold, it was a nice warm drizzle, so we had to enjoy it, and store the water, in any means possible, in case that it would not rain for another month or two.
The sweet moment only lasted so long, before the kids where all brought in and the buckets where left out, they instantly purified the water and all, just in case they had nanobots, and dirt and stuff, I never actually put mind to it, they always told us not to play around the stuff, so we usually followed orders, wouldn’t want to get humiliated in front of the whole rebellion, I almost shudder at the thought, as I recalled a time where they did that to me, it distanced me from most of the people here.
I was thinking of just being lazy all day, something I rarely did, as plans for an afternoon nap began to form in my mind, I heard the Commander bark out orders to the fellow people who were trained , we were not all soldiers, but we were all trained in some sort of combat. The few of us who could manipulate our brain waves to conscious and subconscious and in between, where given a harder way to train, because not only did it left you fiscally tired, but mentally as well, though I would say mentally more, it made you feel like a bag of pudding at the mercy of a truck, thankfully we were usually assigned to special trainers, who have similar brainwaves, or personalities so that it would run more smoothly. Imagine someone with the power to manipulate fire with a kid who could control ice, usually those two are really contrasted, not in a complementary way, but in a way that would destroy half a field if it were to actually happen. I snapped out of my thoughts at the mention of my name. “Rachel!, hey girl?, are you okay? You have been staring at the dead rat in the corner for 5 minutes without blinking” said Faw my friend, the one who i have willingly open just a small bit for, “Oh… Sorry just thinking was has been going on with Thalphe this week; he has seemed a bit off…” I trailed off; Faw unlike me was not a Nano manipulator, so she used weapons and her body to attack incoming enemies.
We were going to head to the building to prepare for training, when a squad comes in, half dragging half carrying a teen; they looked like they were having trouble with the boy, he looked… unmaintained, hair everywhere, his face was practically buried in hair, and his clothes where ragged up, and no shoes, he also looked like he had not bathed in a while and smelled like it too. “What a mess!” exclaimed Cynthia with a disgusted face “Oh, so you saw a mirror?” I said sarcastically as Faw laughed behind me, giving me a high-five, Cynthia just scoffed at me and mumbled a “As if!” then walked off , I rolled my eyes at her and I turned to the squad, I had so many questions, but I knew I could not ask them, I dint have the authority to question, so I turned to Faw.
