NEXT CHAPTER:

We left the hospital in silence. I was thinking nothing about what they had said. I had tried to put it off of my mind, and it somehow worked. I looked at my mom and I could tell her mind was racing.

I told her that I was going to the old antique shop on the corner and that I'll be home around six or seven. She nodded her head in response and went towards the car. I walked down the street until I reached the shop.

I stepped inside and hit the loose board on the floor.

I come here often.

As a getaway.

I don't think they've gotten anything new for a couple years.

Its always the same stuff.

But it's the only place I can really "clear my head".

Well, its not like there's anything to really clear.

I find the first rack of antiques. All the same antiques. But I still thoroughly search the shelf; I come here a lot so I can easily skim through and know what everything is. Instead I decided to go slower because something felt off that day.

I turn the corner and look through the second shelf. I keep going until I finally reach the fifth shelf. I start to daze off and sit down on the bottom of the shelf across from the one I'm looking at, careful not to hit anything.

I start to feel empty again.

Suddenly something catches my eye. Something that hasn't been there before. It was a doll.

Weird.

Without any control over my body, I stood up. Like I was attracted to it.

I met it face-to-face.

It was definitely old. The doll had ripped clothes, covered in dirt; very worn out. I studied it head to toe but stopped when I got to its face. And then I stared at its eyes.

Those eyes.

They just stared back at me.

Looking into my soul.

Like it was trying to find something, in my empty body.

It was looking deep into my soul.

A lot more than I would have ever wanted.

A lot more than I would have ever looked.

Something told me this doll could fix everything.
