It was Monday morning. My first class of the new school year was about to start, and I was secretly looking forward to it.
Father always expected me to do well in school, yet didn't allow me to perform magic at home. So while he wanted me to study on holidays, I couldn't do the real work until I was at school. When were younger, I would often be able to borrow Draco's wand whenever they visited us. We would hide out in the garden and while I was performing spells, he would just sit on the grass and watch me with a smile on his face.
Speaking of Draco; I had not seen him after he left early during lunch yesterday. He hadn't shown up to dinner or breakfast and I was almost worried he wouldn't be on time for class either. It wasn't until the very last second he decided to show up, making me feel slightly relieved. I had saved him a seat next to me, as we always sat together, but he walked right passed me. Instead he sat down next to Pansy.
Pansy looked up at him with big eyes, then turned around to face me, mouthing: "what the actual fuck?"
Before I could say something back, professor Snape started speaking.

I had not been able to focus on class at all this morning. All I could think about was Draco not even acknowledging my presence at all. As soon as the lesson had ended he had left the classroom, the same with the lesson after that.
I was pricking into my strawberries rather aggressively during lunch.
"What did those strawberries do to you Zara?" Blaise asked me, clearly noticing my agitated state.
"Draco was being a complete ass," Pansy explains for me, knowing it would only rile me up more if I had to speak about the subject. "He completely ignored her, even went as far as to sit next to a Ravenclaw student during ancient runes. You should've seen the poor guy's face. He was so shocked that Draco sat next to him."
I saw a fast flash of white blonde hair in the opening of the great hall going by and stood up.
"I'll be right back," I growled.
I stand up and walk, practically run in the direction I saw Draco going. "Draco Lucius Malfoy," I screamed through the hallway. Many students turn to look at me, but I kept my pace. Draco kept moving on, walking faster as well in order to keep the distance. After what felt like forever I gave up, leaning against the wall in defeat.
I heard the bell ringing and cursed loudly. Great, now I was going to be late for potions as well. While I was still trying to catch my breath after having to chase after Draco, I walked as fast as I could to the potions classroom. I really should consider working out more.
When I finally arrived, only five minutes late, which I deemed quite impressive since I had been on the complete other side of the castle, professor Slughorn wasn't very charmed.
As I walk in and apologise for being late, I notice Draco right away. Although I was still furious, I was also surprised that he had made it in time. While I was still out of breath, he seemed perfectly fine. He was already seated next to Blaise, so I knew he was still avoiding me.
So I decided that two can play that game.
Even though there was still a spot next to Pansy, I took the first empty seat I saw at the Gryffindor side. I could hear several people gasp, but only paid attention to Draco. He clearly looked annoyed, but kept his eyes on the professor.
"How lovely to see to see two houses sitting together, oh how times have changes. I hope everyone can make an example out of miss Mikhailov and mr Potter," Slughorn speaks, a big smile on his face as he looks at me.
I could feel my eyes grow wide and it took me a few seconds to muster up the courage to look next to me.
As I turn to face him, I see Potter staring at me, looking as confused as I was.
"Hi," I say, not really knowing what else to do. He gave me a warm smile. "Hi," he said in return. We just stared at each other for a little while, neither knowing what to say.
I mean I did want to piss of Draco, so sitting next to Potter, even though that had not been part of the plan, would definitely accomplish that. Also after the speech Slughorn made, I really felt like I couldn't switch seats anyway.
As we were instructed to make a potion I noticed Potter's old, rundown book. "You either really love learning about potions in your free time, or you borrowed it from someone," I say when I see Potter opening it and almost ripping part of the cover of the book with it. Potter laughs at me. "I got it out of the cupboard, I didn't really plan on taking this class at first," he explains. "If there are pages missing or whatever, you can look into mine as well." I slide my book in the middle of the table because I was not sure he would ask for help if he needed it, this way he could just sneak a peak if he needed to.
"So did you sit next to me to piss of Malfoy on purpose?" he asks me after a little while. I was already halfway done with my potion, and Potter was even further ahead. I knew he was a good student, but never seemed very skilled at potions. So I was a little surprised to see how good his potion started to turn out. "I planed to sit down next to a Gryffindor student to piss him of yes, but sitting next to you was a nice added bonus," I grin.
"I just don't want to provoke him even further," he says. "Please, you can handle Draco. You never backed down from a fight before," I reply. I've seen Draco and Potter go it so many times I've lost count. And although many people were afraid of Draco, Potter never had been, and neither had his friends.
"Those fights have never been about you."
I stop stirring my potion and look up at him. "What do you mean by that?"
"I mean that he would probably go as far as murder when it comes to you."
I bit my lip. If only Potter had known how true his actual statement was.
Hope you guys enjoyed this chapter! Even thought this is the sixth year and I follow the what happens in the book/movie a little, I will also change some things or use some things from the book/movie in later chapters. Let me know your thoughts :)
