seungkwan wasn't quite sure how long he lay there for, but by the time he and vernon were standing up both could agree that it had been for far too long–especially for two 'enemies-who-pretend-they're-best-friends-but-actually-hate-each-other', as seungkwan had internally dubbed them.

although, he was starting to think that title was a little too long. perhaps they could shorten it to just 'friends'. alas, the throbbing pain around his eye was currently more important than his relationship with the mud-covered boy in front of him– they needed a way to get help.

"can you phone someone to come pick us up?" seungkwan asked. "my phone won't turn on because of stupid water damage."

"what?" vernon's expression alone was enough to for seungkwan's soul to sink down to his drenched shoes and out into the puddle beneath them. "mine won't turn on either."

"great. i just knew the world had it out for me ever since seonghwa threatened me into fighting him." seungkwan clutched his stomach where it'd been kicked as the pain began to increase at a similar pace to his depleting will to live.

vernon tried jamming his thumb again his phone's home button a few more times, each with more frustration but no more sign of life from his cracked phone screen. "i think we'll just have to walk back."

"and i think i might pass out before we get there. is there no where closer we can go to try and contact someone?" seungkwan's aquaphobia couldn't handle the thought of another trudge through the puddles that most definitely lined the muddy back trail to their house.

"wait-" vernon's eyes widened. "does wonwoo have work today? because the library's just a five minute walk away."

seungkwan swore his heart skipped a beat. "hold on... i think he does! i overheard him depressedly telling mingyu about it last night."

"well then, it looks like we have a plan." vernon cracked a familiar gummy smile that seungkwan had long since grown to resent. not because it was unpleasant, but because it was the exact opposite; and he could never help but smile back, something that had never fit their relationship particularly well- although now it was beginning to feel different.

seungkwan wasn't sure how it was different, but it was definitely going somewhere... interesting, maybe.

at the very least, it had to have been somewhere more exciting than the library, as it was clearly top priority in seungkwan's mind as the two began to make their way to deliver their broken and bleeding selves to wonwoo– a happy little surprise to brighten the recluse's dull work day.

little did seungkwan and vernon know, they were not going to be the first of wonwoo's visitors at the library that day.

a certain kim mingyu had taken it upon himself to spend the day there, something wonwoo couldn't decide whether it was a good thing or not. he enjoyed the company, but at times just wanted some peace and quiet to read his book, something you never really got when mingyu was around.

"you know, there's a character in my book who's really similar to you." wonwoo remarked as he turned a page, momentarily looking up at mingyu who seemed especially surprised by this.

"really? why? what are they like?" he excitedly rushed over, trying to read the book over wonwoo's shoulder, which was considerably difficult since the bookworm immediately recoiled inward to hide it.
