National Central Police Bureau, Manila
Richard Lim casually dressed waited for his visitor. Although he came back from Tagaytay at dawn time, he still managed to report to his office at 9:00 a.m. looking fresh and alert.
Then, three men were ushered to the conference room when Richard was.
“Good morning, Director Lim.” The 6 foot tall, bulky man greeted him. By his looks, he must be in his 50’s.
“Good morning, Greg. Kumusta sa NBI.” The two men shook hands.
“What else could I say? Loaded with too many cases? We’re up to neck with work at special investigative department.” Greg Ariston responded humorously.
“Hello, Richard.” Another guy with the same height and built as Richard and wearing a police officer uniform tapped his shoulder. They are within the same age group, mid-30s.
“Pare, looking good, ah.” Richard commented. “What’s the secret, Director James Alcantara?”
“There is no secret. We both know that we are the best looking police trainees since our time. Una ka lang ng isang hilamos sa akin, bro.” James laughed, and the other joined him.
“You haven’t changed, pare. You're still oozing ka with confidence." Richard countered, and then he nodded at the third guy who was George, his staff assistant.
James pulled a chair and sat down. “Well, you too haven’t changed. You are still good looking, single and flying high. I heard you are going to be the next PDEA chief, the youngest if ever. Is that the reason you have been repatriated to the Philippines?”
Richard’s eyes narrowed to tiny slits. “Pare, don’t spread that rumor about my supposed next job. It isn’t true. That role is a political appointee; I don’t want to be in that kind of situation. I am a career officer. I am happy where I am. I was asked to return to help out in some cases including this SEA triad.”
“Oh, so we got our information wrong. See, Greg? We really need to strengthen police intelligence department. Mali-mali ang nasasagap kong news.” James seemed to be disappointed. “Anyway, bro yang SEA triad din ang reason we are here."
“So, tell me.” Richard, Greg and George joined James on the round table.
