" That looks like shit." Doris said. I choked on my apple juice. She was floating above the dinner table, her left foot going through Dragos's head. It's Friday. You know we eat Romani food on Friday's. She rolled her eyes. " You should get yourself some Hoover Stew! That stuff was the bee's knees during my time!" I smiled. Dragos glared at me. Prick. Being father's favorite has gone to his head. " Maybe that's why its so big!" Doris laughed. I tried not to spit out my conoza. Doris sat up straight and hopped of the table, her flapper dress whacking Dragos in the face in the process. Not that he could feel it.

Despite being a 'family' having dinner together we were all over the place. Alina had opted to sit alone at the head of the table, while Lucian, Dacia and Renfri bunched together on the far left side. I sat at the far right side and Dragos only sat next to me because he wanted to sit at the other head of the table. Estella was still scrubbing the carpet.

Dacia and Renfri exchanged quick whispers, no doubt plotting another prank of some sort, while Lucian filled a small container with all the food he could fit- for Estella. I quickly finished my food and excused myself from the table seeing as my siblings had jack shit to say to me. I dropped my dishes off in the kitchen making small talk with the cook/maid Elena. Or at least I think that was her name. She had the same brown hair and scared, skittish nature as the last 14 maids. I made my way to my room, Doris criticizing the 'Lousy' décor that almost made her her upchuck. Doris was one of the frequents, as they usually didn't stay for very long. Some of them didn't even know why they were the way they were.

I wasn't sure if Doris knew. I didn't ask. I quite liked her company. I remember the first time I met her. I was 5 years old. The clock read 4:45 pm, training time. We trained our gifts as well as some combat skills. Renfri had successfully read and controlled her first mind that day, and was rewarded with sweets. This of course caused Alina to have a tantrum. I had hoped that they would forget about me, seeing as they always did any way, but I had shit luck that day.

I couldn't do it. It was a simple task but I couldn't do it. I was meant to talk to one of them, from our coven. I was given a belonging of theirs, a cloak with our symbol on it, but I couldn't do it. I knew I was in trouble when dad sighed and took the cloak back from me. Father only stared before grabbing me by the arm and dragging me to the cellar. He knew what was in the cellar. He knew and he still locked me in there for the whole night. Dacia and Lucian tried arguing in my favor but were quickly shot down.

We were so close back then. Doris had comforted me the whole night, though she made me shit my pants first when she stuck her head through the wall. " Quit your wailing you little Hokum!" She told me stories about " drugstore cowboys" and " Cake-Eaters" which 5 year old me had no business knowing about. I smiled at the memory. " What are you cheesing at?" she asked with her hands on her hips. A knock sounded at my door and I walked forward, opening it. My eyes widened at the person on the other side. What the hell?
