"Shut up! Just shut up, will you?!"

Tommy flinched and did indeed shut up at his dad's request. Knowing better than to open his mouth again.

The family sat at the dining table, in the middle of eating their supper. Tommy knew he shouldn't have gotten that excited, rambling about his recent stream, but he just felt really happy.

Streaming was the only time when he ever felt happy, nowadays.

Well it wasn't the actual streaming part, but what came with it, he guessed. Being on call with his friends, getting those friends in the first place. Tommy didn't know what he would do without them. He found everlasting joy and comfort in them, the 'Sleepy Bois Inc' feeling more like his actual family at this point.

Family, right, his dad was yelling at him.

"Can't you just do something useful instead and stop bothering us? Haven't you realised that we do not care? Here we make food for you and you haven't shown any gratitude." His dad continued with the scolding but Tommy couldn't bear to listen anymore. His dad's yells started to sound muffled as tears started picking at his eyes, but he desperately tried to hold them in.

Can't show any weakness, he thinks. It will only make things worse.

And as in que, his father spat "Oh stop crying, brat. What are you? A child? Grow up!"

Tommy can't do this, he has to get away from here.

He stood up from his chair, ready to sprint up the stairs to get to his room, but he was too slow. He feels a strong hand on his arm stopping him and making him unable to move away, earning a 'yelp' by the younger boy. He held hard enough that Tommy was certain it would leave a bruise.

He has no choice but to face his father, now only a few inches away. But Tommy tries to look behind his dad, trying to see his mom who has yet to say a word in this. Tommy once dreamed that she would save him by taking him and herself away and move somewhere far from his father, but that fantasy has been crushed many times now, for when he sees his mother, there is no empathy for her son in her eyes. Tommy feels even colder. He shivers.

That was the wrong thing to do.

"Stop fucking flinching!" His dad cursed as he raised his other hand that wasn't restraining his son.

It all happened so fast, the next second there was a stinging sensation on Tommys left cheek, but the adrenaline was making it feel less, almost numbing. All Tommy could feel was shock and his legs were going on themself. His dad had let his arm go and Tommy ran up the stairs to get to the safety of his room. On the way up, Tommy could hear his dad utter one last thing before he managed to close the door.
