Our society

is like a pyramid or even

a food chain between prey and predator.

The poor the wealthy the rich we're all separated.

And then there are the Royals...

Yes, I wasn't a royal. I was merely a young girl who was grouped as being lower class. I watch him every day as he rides in his carriage and is surrounded by guards. I envied every aspect of him, including his social standing, parents, fortune, enormous castle, elegant attire, and princely title. Oh if only I could be such royalty then I would never have to worry about money or any other foolish problem I face. My thoughts were interrupted

"Maya honey could you please massage my legs I swear they're about to fall off soon," Uncle Mato asked in a broken voice while he struggles to sit up.

The deprived look Uncle Mato's broke me. His legs were thin and fragile his hands were brittle and no longer soft his face which once showed happiness was now dim. He couldn't keep up with this anymore, taking care of my siblings and I was exhausting he had 3 stomachs to feed and look after. I knew It was wrong to let him work but I wasn't allowed to work as I'm supposed to take care of my siblings at home. I knew I had to convince him to let me work if he continues to work I'm afraid that he'll fall ill. I slowly put my hand on my uncle's leg feeling every little scratch that could be felt.

"Uncle I think it's time I" Before I could finish the words from my mouth I was interrupted.

"No Maya how will I feed you and your siblings!?" "How will I keep a roof on all your heads!" He yelled clenching his jaw.

The room filled with a long silence. A silence so long it was disturbing but that silence was cut as soon as the sounds of faint incoherent cries started. Uncle Mato had begun to sob and so was I. We both hugged each other as our tears slowly fell from our faces.

"Uncle stop hurting yourself like this!" "I-I will work for us, I'll find a job good enough and i'll help you." I insisted as I looked deep into his eyes.

Uncle Mato knew that look well and he also knew he wasn't fit out to work anymore. With hesitation, he replied, " ok I will let you work."

"Yes!' I beamed with joy "I won't let you down, Uncle!"

I hugged Uncle Mato goodnight and dashed to my bed. Staring off into the ceiling thinking of all the possibilities. Soon I would be able to feed my family and I'd be the one to take care of them. Maybe I could even be rich and by beautiful dresses like all the other girls my age.

"Oh god just wait till I start working!" "I'll be the richest person alive!" I exclaimed.

As soon as the sun hit my face I woke up in a jiff. I put on the best thing I had laying in my closet and put on Uncle's work shoes."they're a bit big but they can do," I shrug.

I walk over to the table and place the leftover from last night for my siblings. I slowly bend down towards my uncle and kiss his forehead as I leave for work.

The sounds of the crates filled with fruits hitting the dirt floor, the sounds of the village men chatting, the sound of the village kids playing and laughing. All of it was music to my ears as I skipped like a child to the local restaurant.

"Maya, what are you doing here?" " Where is Mato?" Jerry questioned in a low tone.

"Actually I was wondering... If I could work here from now on?" I pondered in a nervous way.

Jerry's eyebrows raised "What do you mean?" "Will, your uncle not work here from now on?"

"Y-yes actually he's not cut out for working anymore so you could replace him with me?'' I replied.

Jerry let out a sigh as he explained " Maya it's too hard to work in a restaurant like this are you sure you're cut out for this."

"Of course I am I've been waiting for this day for like forever!" I beamed.

"Ok ok, let me call someone to help you out and give you a brief introduction." "Lianne!" Jerry called out.

A girl appeared from the other side of the restaurant. She was slim and tall and her eyes were honey-brown as she eyed me up and down. She scurried right beside me.

"Ok Lianne, Maya here will be a waitress like you, Give her the introductions and instruct her." Jerry elucidated.

"Yes sir" she replied.

Jerry disappeared into the kitchen. I nervously look at Lianne who clearly already looked like she was done with me.

"Hi I'm Maya," I said.

Lianne ignored the comment and got straight to giving me instructions. Being a waitress meant having a busy schedule and work had to be done fast. Liane helped me try to understand how the kitchen system works and how to hold the trays properly. Once work started I kept moving and moving it was soo hard to coordinate what I was doing. Once the shift was over I immidietly sat on a chair. Admittedly I had done pretty badly, I was giving plates to the wrong table and had even thrown trays of food.

"You're just like your uncle, slow, lazy, bad, and fired." Jerry taunted as he walks towards her.

My eyebrows furrowed in anger as those filthy words came out of his mouth about my uncle. With such anger, I couldn't control my hand and ended up landing a slap on Jerry's face.

"Crap I screwed up," I say to myself.

Jerry quickly escorted me out of the building in an aggressive way.

"You and your uncle will never be able to work here ever again!" He bleated.

"Oh Maya you've done it again messed up and lost a good job on my first day here" I sighed.

"Maya..." A similar voice echoed behind me.

In the darkness stood Lianne with a cigarette in her hand. The smoke filled the air and the light of the moon emitted the alleyway.

"Lianne?" "What is it?" I question her as the wind hits both of us.

Lianne slowly walks toward me and passes her the cigarette.

"Here it'll calm you down," Lianne chuckled as she looked me up and down.

I don't smoke but in an urge, I took the cigarette out of her hand and smoked for the first time. It felt like a sharp knife through my chest as I started to cough continuously.

"I understand how you feel Maya... I was in a position like you a long time ago. I actually know a great job that is always willing to hire and they totally helped me out." Lianne added, "You just have to-you know entertain guys and make money."

"entertain?" I raised my brows.

"Yeah like-you know just hang out with them and they'll give you money. Once I got $100 from a guy in one day and it's also safe." Lianne assured.

"A $100 dollars a night! That's amazing!" I thought to myself. "Umm, where can I start?"

"Great meet me here tomorrow by 5 o clock we're going to be going to a club for the upper class so it'll be a lot of fun!"

My hopes went high maybe this was a better opportunity. I was hopeless and in need of money. There was no other option.

"I'll be there!'' I approved while I walked back home.

Why did I say yes to such a job that I know my uncle would kill me for? If I tell him I got fired on my first day he's going to be disappointed even worse I got him fired too. I'll just have to lie to him I guess. I thought to myself as I approached the front door of my house.

That's the end of this chapter I'll be making more chapters soon I hope you enjoy it!!! have a good night or a good morning or a good evening.:DD
