"I don't believe you." Sam looked at Melody dead pan. The 4 of them were all standing in the alcove by the back entrance to the school. Melody had just told Sam everything Cindy had told her. Neal and Bill both looked at him excited.

"Sam it's true." She laughed.

"If this is some kind of a joke. And this whole time you've just been getting close to us, trying to set me up-" Sam sounded angry

"Sam, I swear. She told me she liked you. And she want's you to ask her to Mona's party I would not lie about that. I'm not that creative. I don't have that much forethought to put a plan like that in motion." She explained.

"Sam, you gotta ask her to that party!" Neal encouraged his friend.

Sam sighed, "But, I- I don't even know Mona." he argued.

"What's the difference it's what Cindy wants." Neal told him.

"Half the people going don't know Mona." Melody explained.

"See, you don't need to know Mona, you just need to know Cindy." Neal explained.

"I think she wants to be your girlfriend," Bill added.

Sam looked like he was going to be sick. "Oh man," He sighed.

"What's the matter with you? You've wanted this for years! Be a man, go get her!" Neal encouraged. Melody laughed slightly at Neal's speech. Like he was talking up a player before a game.

"I know, but.."

"But what?" Neal asked.

".. I'm scared." Sam's voice cracked. Melody looked at him sympathetically like a lost puppy.

"Well they're not." Neal told his friend, looking out the window to Cindy and her friends down the hall at her locker. "I can just hear them now. 'Uh, hey Cindy, you want to go with me to Mona's party?' " He lowered his voice in an impression of one of the jocks surrounding her. " 'Well, I was kind of hoping Sam was going to ask me, but since he doesn't seem interested, okay Thor.' " He mimicked a higher female voice.

"Thor? Really?" Melody teased Neal.

"Hey, it's a name." Neal defended.

"Yeah of a comic book character and a Norse god. Not a student at our school." She laughed at him.

"Okay, okay shut up. I'm going to ask her." Sam said like he was psyching himself up. He took a deep breath, closed his eyes and paused for a minute. Then left the alcove and started to walk slowly toward Cindy and her friends.

Neal, Bill, and Melody all stood in the door way watching from behind the window.

"They grow up so fast." Neal joked doing a funny southern accent .

"Our little baby bird has learned to fly, and all we have is this empty nest." Melody copied the voice Neal did following along with his joke and wrapping her arm around his shoulders.

"What ever will we do." Neal replied hooking his arm around her waist as all 3 of them continued to stare out the window.

"Die, I suppose." Melody continued the bit.

"Of sadness." Neal joked.

"Of loneliness." Melody continued.

"You two need help." Bill said looking at the pair. They both laughed then dropped their arms back to their sides and continued to watch Sam.

Sam looked so awkward talking to Cindy, Melody thought it was actually kind of adorable.

"It's happening, they're smiling." Neal commentated excitedly.
