The truth,
An abstract concept
So often misunderstood
Pursued most often
We are taught to value it
Tell it in any situation
But what happens
When we don't want it?
What happens
When man doesn't want truth
But lies?
Lies.
Do we lie?
Do we betray ourselves?
Indeed many do
No shame in that
It is a cruel irony
Taught to praise the truth
But as we age
As we wise up
We realize that truly
So few want the truth
Their lies all-encompassing
Pervasive, invasive
The lies become the truth
A new truth
The truth that suits the teller
A truth to advance a person
A business, an idea
The truth is so far, so far
So far from coming to light
That when extraordinary men
Women, children
Come close to that great truth
They shall be snuffed by society
For that is the true lesson
It is not an inquiry for truth
But no, what is the lie?
The lie we take as truth
But all those lies stand up
Like a fragile house of cards
And when wind blows
They shall tumble down,
And society shall be given a gift
The gift we yearn for,
Truth.
