Jason Schwartz tapped his pen against the wooden desk waiting for the bell to ring. High school. He sighed as his English teacher droned on about the novel 'To Kill a Mocking Bird'. He had already read the book in his own past time. "Mr Schwartz, is my teaching boring you?" Mrs Weldy confronted him. Yes! he wanted to say. "No mam." Jason mumbled, opening his copy of the novel, taking the teacher's attention away from him. The lesson seemed to drag on forever.

The school bell rang and Jason slung his book bag over his shoulder and made his way out the classroom. Before Jason realised what was happening, he was shoved hard by a broad shoulder, causing him to stumble. "Move Twerp." The person sneered. He was the one and only Mark Matthews- muscular, aggressive and always got what he wanted.

Jason made his way to his locker and his eye caught Hayley May shuffling through her own locker. She's not hard to miss considering their lockers are right next to each other. She was singing a song, barely audible to anyone who wasn't listening. The song was sad, but her voice made it pleasant, almost hypnotic. She had bright red earbuds pugged into her ears, blocking out the world. Her big eyes were hidden behind her blond bangs. "Why are you staring at me like that?" Hayley had slammed her locker shut, taking out an earbud and was now facing Jason with an eyebrow arched questioningly. Jason looked away refusing to make eye contact. "Sorry Hayley, I couldn't help listening. You have a beautiful voice." Jason shrugged and he could have sworn he saw a blush creep it's way onto her cheeks. Hayley gave a small smile but before she could say anything back a pair of arms slid around her waist. Mark pulled her closer to him. "How's my gorgeous girl? Is this freak annoying you?" He didn't give her time to answer and pulled her around so he could kiss her. Jason stood behind his locker embarrassed and jealous at their bold affection. Mark leaned her against the lockers, moving his mouth towards hers, grinning cheekily. Jason cleared his throat awkwardly, earning a wink from Haley. He rolled his eyes shutting his locker- he had had enough.

The cafeteria was packed. Jason's eyes scanned the round tables for his friend, Andrew. His eyes landed on a boy with shaggy brown hair who was waving at Jason madly. Andrew had a grin on his face as jason approached his table. "Hey there stranger!" He laughed at him. Jason had been neglecting his friend all day as he hadn't seen him at all. jason dropped his tray next to him and started munching on his burger. Suddenly the lights dimmed and the loud chatter of student quietened. "Ladies and gentleman..." A giggle escaped the speakers mouth before she continued. Jason could recognise Hayley's voice anywhere. she stood on a table with a fork in her hand, acting as her microphone. "I am inviting all of you crazy beasts to a bonfire party at my place tomorrow night!" She grinned at everyone. The shy girl singing at the lockers was long gone by now - this girl was standing proudly with a wicked grin on her face. "Whoo!!" A male voice called out in joy. The lights turned back on and the students began to discuss the exciting news. Hayley May jumped down from the table and shimmied to her boyfriend's table. She wore a red tank top and ripped jeans with fishnet gloves on her hands. She was definitely an extraordinary girl.

Jason turned to Andrew. "So what do you think? We should go, it sounds pretty cool." Andrew stopped mid-bite to raise his eyebrows at him. "Are you shitting me Jay? When Hayley said 'all of you' she clearly did not mean us. " he rolled his eyes, shaking his head in disbelief. Jason wAs beginning to get annoyed with this boy. "Come on! We never go to these things. Why not try?" Jason argued. Andrew stared at him for a long moment before replying. "This is about Hayley right? Forget her man! Hold on..." He grabbed a pencil from his bag and scrawled at a paper as if he'd just made a Mathematical breakthrough and then looked back up at Jason. "I just did some calculations, and I've been able to determine that you're full of shit." Jason let out a bark of laughter before becoming serious again. "We're going bro."
