Your music will live on past this day , that you are now gone.
As Greece remembers , the poems sung are more than one.
In their dark days as they struggled for freedom, your music rung
They sang , oh how they sang for their freedom from many a tongue.
Over the radios from the Polytechinion* in Athens they played
As the tanks rolled down the streets to stop the young ones' way
How will the world remember you Mikis Theodorakis as you pass away?
On this day , as Greece fills the net with your musical grace well displayed
Zorba is there with Anthony Quin in shades of grey as that old film lives again
But for me it is you the biggest giant of poetry to song will always remain
As I remember the tears I shed when I heard all those tunes played
At the iconic theatre of the Acropolis by the light of the moon I swayed.
In time with all those people singing out with your songs of poems to music
As you gave rebirth to words once lost to old pages a new stage.
