Gazing out over a starlit night, I think of how life must have been in the 20s and 30s. Billie Holiday's voice soothes my soul from the stereo. A shooting star streaks above the horizon.

I begin to picture the struggles that people in that era had to face, regarding certain privileges being frowned upon or banned. Drinking or at least the sales and distribution of alcohol was prohibited. Jazz was shunned, due to it mostly being played in speakeasies. These underground bars would be a place people could go that were hidden from the prying eyes of local and federal governments.

As Lady Day arrives at the next chorus, I take another swig of whiskey and continue down my rabbit hole of thought.
