How did this fucking happen? How did I let one of us get taken? Let alone Pest? I felt completely responsible for this. I should have followed those two pieces of shit. I know Pest could handle himself so I didn't. I hope Gab didn't think of this. I'm sure she feels guilty as well. Fuck.
We started to go to the Vile and it was almost hard to keep up with her. She was on a damn mission, determined. This fucking woman. We were making our way and it started to snow hard. "Of fucking course!" she yelled. She always swore more when she was upset. I could tell she was getting too impatient as more and more snow started falling to the ground. It piled fast, our four-hour walk turned into trudging into the snow that was well past our knees. She knew we couldn't go any longer. We still had six hours ahead of us. The worst part of the world ending? No cars.
She slumped her body and I'm assuming let out a hell of a sigh, not that I can hear over the wind around us. She then in a defeating wave of her hand pointed to a cave on her left and Pike went in to investigate it first. Two barks: Clear.
We set up for the night making a campfire and using some of the tablecloths and curtains we nabbed from a house to seal off the entrance for warmth. The fire was full and warm, she went into a private part of the cave to change into backup clothes to dry her previous ones, and I did the same. We sat in silence, thanks to me and her frustration, and ate our dried meat while she fed Pike.
"I can't fucking believe this, my brother is probably dead and I'm stuck in a cave not able to free him," the tears finally set in. She wiped them fast, maybe hoping I didn't even hear her. I did. I passed her a notebook, I wrote I'm sorry Gab. When she read it she slightly smiled.
"You're talking to me are you?" she laughed. "All it took was a trauma for you to write to me for the first time." Her laugh made my heart jump. "Night Ransom, maybe someday we'll be best friends and you'll use your voice." and with that she was asleep. She worked so hard today she actually slept.
Night Gab. I thought. I again couldn't sleep. I was left alone with my thoughts. I look over to Gab passed out with Pike snuggled up to her. I decided to look around the cave, my heart knew we would be here a while. The best part of it, I knew the Frenzies would wait for us before deciding what to do with Pest, I knew that if they wanted to kill him; they'd make us see it.
After looking around the cave I didn't see much. On my way back to Gab and Pike I kicked over a rock that looked like it was part of the cave's side. It revealed a hole in the cave's side. I put a light in there to see what was hidden, I found fucking alcohol. How long has that shit been here? There were tons of bottles, we needed to pack this shit up for medical purposes. But, maybe Gab and I could share just a tiny bit?
Through all the kinds I found there were two bottles of wine, we couldn't really use that for anything but drinking or a fancy meat marinade. I went to find Gab, she was still asleep and I gently pushed on her shoulder. "What? What's going on, are you okay?!" she yelled in shock. I probably should have waited but I was too excited to show it to her. I held up the wine, "Where the fuck did you get that?" Her eyes widened. I motioned for her to follow me and showed her the hole in the cave. She loaded up her bag with the clear stuff and we went back to the fire. Pike was still passed out.
"Is it selfish to drink this?" she stammered, caring as always "I've never had wine before, well I mean when my parents made us take communion at that god awful church, fucking religion." I laughed quietly.
Maybe we should just drink it, we can't carry it, why waste it? I wrote to her.
"Fuck it," she smiled "Cheers you persuasive bastard."
