"The manager wants you in his office...now."
"Now??? Is something wrong..is it about my audition?" You rub your eyes, still in a hazy daze after being brutally ripped out of your dream.
The edges of Jennie's lips pull down slightly, and she pauses temporarily before shaking her head.
"I don't know...Seojun just told me to get you."
"Seojun?" You sit up abruptly, suddenly on alert after hearing his name. You're not sure if it's because you have any lingering feelings, or whether you are still annoyed at him for leaving you hanging before...you tell yourself that it can only be the latter. Love and heartbreak is not a risk you are willing to take just before your debut.
As you follow Jennie to the manager's office, you feel your heartbeat racing. What did you do wrong? The question screams in your mind. You are at the last step...nothing can go wrong now.
You reach the door and Jennie gives you a nod of encouragement as you place your hand on the handle, about to open the door. You give her a weak smile, the biggest you can muster at this moment.
As you open the door, you see the manager seated at his desk and Seojun standing to your right. A nervous expression is plastered over his face, mirroring yours. At least you know you're not the only one in this. You nod in greeting twice, before you meekly shuffle towards the left.
Pov: you awkwardly walk into the room AND SEOJUN GIVES U A SIDEWAYS AWKWARD GLANCE
The manager nods, acknowledging your arrival.
"Now...Seojun...y/n...the reason I have called upon you two today is because I have some news." You nod in sync with Seojun. The manager continues on, "As you both are aware of, the annual HAN JIPYEONG competition is next week. Every agency has a representative soloist or group that performs, competing with other agencies. Seojun, your spot has been secured, you will be representing our agency. You may either perform solo or as a duet, and that brings me to you y/n. Y/n, do you choose to participate in this extremely prestigious competition alongside Seojun? This is an amazing opportunity for you to start building a fan base before your debut. This is a golden opportunity, which I am sure you are more than wise to not turn down. What do you think?"
Nausea lathers itself generously on the pit of your stomach. This is, indeed, a golden opportunity - but performing with Seojun? Of all people, did it have to be the one person you were trying to avoid all week? The manager is now smiling tensely, as if lulling you to agree with his proposition. On the other hand, you can feel Seojun's eyes piercing into you...you don't know if he wants you to agree or not. The manager coughs impatiently, reminding you to make your decision quickly. You don't think you have much of a choice here.
"Oh...yes...that sounds wonderful." You glance at Seojun, making a mental note to assure him later that there are no hard feelings and it was just for the sake of impressing the manager.
"Good, well that's decided then." The manager adjusts his spectacles so they are no longer balancing precariously on the tip of his nose. "Now...quickly go practice...I have high hopes for both of you!"
You edge towards the door, but Seojun makes it there before you do. He opens the door for you, and you roll your eyes. Obviously he acts as the good guy again when the manager is watching. You remind yourself again and again that his nice demeanour is just an act, before you can feel touched by his kind gestures.
You decide to play along, touching his arm gently as you exit. You see him flinch the very slightest, and you smirk. "Thank you, Seojun. I'm so looking forward to working with you."
