'The return of a close relative'

It's been a little more than three years since I spent time or rather saw my brother in person. Thinking back on the memories of us together before he was drafted into war is honestly miserable. Though we are brother and sister, we always act like we're twins, inseparable, have similar thoughts when speaking to others. It was the day that the least expected happened.

"Mom!" I dragged out, racing down the stairway. "What's for dinner?" I asked, finally reaching the bottom of the stairs and into the nearby kitchen.

"I'm starving to death!" She chuckled already dishing out plates full of delicious delicacy that she made from scratch.

"Honey, you're right on time, I was already finished with the table, you can go get your father and grandfather." Grumbling in frustration after going into the living room, "Dad, Grandpa-" he cut me off. "We heard," he said still holding the newspaper up to his face.

After dinner, we were preparing to watch a family movie but I know everything wouldn't be the same without a certain member. Grabbing a handful of the buttery popcorn I prepared, I sat back on the couch, almost being sandwiched into the soft material, and pressed play.

A few moments later, I drifted off into oblivion, breathing slowed as I was in my calm nature.

 *Ding Dong!*

The sound of the doorbell filled my ears as I opened one of my eyes, the blur coming to a stop.

My grandpa was the first to approach the door and to everyone's surprise, a tall, brown skin man in camouflage wear held a bouquet of flowers in one hand and a duffel bag on his other shoulder, smiled weakly at us. Clearly showing signs of exhaustion.

I immediately sat up worried after hearing my grandpa sigh.

"Grandpa?" I questioned. "Are you alright-" I paused as I saw my brother standing at the door.

"Oh. My. Gosh, it's you isn't it?" covering my mouth with my shaky hand. "Your real right? Please please say something." Choking back a loud sob, I was suddenly engulfed in the warmest and comforting hug I had in a long time. "I'm home sister," he said while rubbing my back swaying us side to side.
