summer.

it was a time like no other.

hot sun, vacation, no school.
total heaven.

each year it was a new place.
paris, england, the like.

your next stop, japan.

you spoke the language for once, so at least you'd be able to buy dinner without a struggle.

sporting a sun dressed and a brimmed hat, you set out through tokyo.

a walk through the city
led you to a much quieter street.
still, there were many people there.

you watched as two boys,
one with two-toned hair
and the other with a questionable hairstyle, enjoyed their lunch
under an umbrella across the street.

the shorter of the two caught your eye.

there was something alluring about him, something that prevented you from looking away.

just looking at him,
he seemed meek, apathetic.

a bit too quickly,
he was looking in your direction.

and just like that, his eyes lost yours.

as you got closer,
he interested you even more.

still, you couldn't decide
what it was that was so interesting.

you pondered on it
as you passed where they sat.

for a second, he looked back,
presumably to see if the strange person
across the street was still staring.

to his dismay, you were.

from here you could see him better.

you weren't close enough
to discern the color of his eyes,
but his face reminded you
of your friend's cat back home.

maybe that's what captivated you.
his uncanny resemblance to a
fuzzy house pet?

unlikely.

even as you passed where they sat,
you still watched him
over your shoulder for a bit.

unbeknownst to you,
a warmth had crept up to your cheeks.

your mind did its best to remember his face.

something told you
he'd show up sometime again.
