i woke up, the sun was barely up. ruben had me snuggled into his chest, his arms wrapped around me. i smiled, my eyes barely able to stay open since it was so early. i remembered that i should probably get home before my mom wakes up and realizes i'm not home. i made my way from out of his arms, trying to not wake him up.

he groaned softly as i was sitting on the edge of his bed, i looked back at him. he grabbed the pillow i had my head on, squeezing it against his body with his arms around it. i smiled to myself, he was a really cute sleeper. his lips were pouty, his cheeks red, and his hair was messy. i caught myself staring, i looked away and back at the ground.

i got up, going to his dresser where i had placed my clothes and keys. i wrote him a quick little note, just so he wouldn't question why i wasn't in his bed anymore. i looked back at him before opening his room door and going into the small hallway.

forest had woken up, too. i giggled quietly as he purred against the fabric of my socks. i sat there, playing with him for a good thirty minutes. i went home, plopping down onto my small bed. i fell asleep pretty quickly, since i was still tired as hell.

ruben's pov

i woke up, it was about to be 11am. i noticed salem wasn't in bed with me anymore, i also noticed that i was holding salem's pillow in my arms. i remember feeling something under my arms earlier this morning, and i'm pretty sure that was her. i hope i didn't weird her out or anything.

i got up, going over to my dresser where i saw a small piece of paper on the dresser. i picked it up, running my hands through my hair and looking at it.

the sloppy handwriting read:

Hey, thank u for letting me stay over. I went home, don't want my mom wondering where I am. So uh yeah. Just saying in case u were wondering where I went! :)

i smiled to myself. at least it doesn't seem like she was weirded out by me. i got ready for the day, not really knowing what i was gonna do. i hadn't made any plans, except going back to the skate shop. i thought of salem's board, maybe i should take her to the shop with me. i don't know, i feel like the guys would like her.

i went to her door, knocking on it softly. i waited a few seconds, and i was about to knock again, when her mom answered the door.
"oh, hi, ruben!" i smiled in return.
"hi, ms. chavez. i'm, uh, here for salem," i said, she smiled and nodded.
"alright, i'll tell her," she said, i nodded. she left the door open as she went to a door, knocking on it softly.
"salem! the boy next door is asking for you," she said.
"what?!" salem said, i smiled to myself.

"i don't know, just- come out here, por dios!," her mom said, walking away.
"she'll be right out in a second," her mom said.
"come in, you can wait in the living room," she said, i nodded softly. i closed the door behind me, sitting down on the couch as i held my board between my legs. i played with one of my wheels for a while, when salem came out of what seemed to be the bathroom.

i looked up at her, and i swear my heart started beating so fast. i thought that was weird, i got annoyed when my palms got so damn sweaty.
"hey," she said with a soft smile.
"h-hi," i said, getting up again.
"um, why are you here," she asked, tilting her head at me a bit.
"i was, um, wondering if you wanted to go to the skate shop with me today," i asked her as i scratched the back of my neck nervously, she raised her eyebrows a bit.

"oh, uh, i don't have any money, so.."
"you don't need money, we can just hang out- if you want. p-plus, ray might give you a discount, so you got that chance," i said, she nodded softly.
"mamá, is it okay if i hang out with ruben today," she asked her mom, her mom nodded.
"go ahead," she mumbled, not giving two shits, while salem smiled excitedly.
"okay, i'll be right back," she went to her room. i waited a minute, she came back with shoes on and her backpack, i smiled.
"let's go," i said.

we walked to motorz. she didn't really speak much, though i'd already expected that. we got to the shop, she walked in behind me.
"hey, ruben," ray greeted me. he looked behind me and at salem.
"ruben's girl," he said, salem and i both turned red.
"she's not my girl," i said, they all laughed.
"mamas just followed you in here, then," fuckshit asked as he laughed. i rolled my eyes.
"guys, this is salem. she's a friend of mine," i said.

salem's pov

i felt my stomach turn when he called me his friend, i felt my face become hot. i've never really had friends before, i'm not used to this.
"salem, that's ray and fuckshit at the counter. that's fourthgrade and sunburn on the couches," he said, pointing to each person. i smiled a bit, awkwardly saying hi to them. yeah... my social skills aren't that good. also, they're names are fucking weird. but i didn't comment on that.

"yeah, salem's really fucking dope when she's on her board," ruben told ray, i couldn't help but smile.
"yeah? alright, cmon, let's see watchu got," ray said, picking up a board that i assume is his and leading me to the back of the shop. ruben and i walked out back with ray, he passed me the board.

"show me some of your tricks," he said, i placed the board down. i haven't been on one in a few days, i just hope i still have it. i cruised around a bit, getting used to the feeling. i smiled to myself once i had it, skating was the only thing i really loved. i missed it a whole lot.

i adjusted my feet as i started doing all kinds of tricks on my board, trying my hardest not to bust my ass as i felt their eyes on me. once i was out of breathe, i skated back over to them, powersliding to a stop. ray dapped me up as he smiled.
"damn, i've never seen a girl be that good at skating," he said, i smiled even harder than i already had been. i was sweaty as fuck, but it was worth it.

"don't you got a board of your own, though," ray asked me, i shook my head.
"broke it about a week ago... i can't really afford another one so, yeah," i said, passing him his board back. he nodded.

"alright... then let's make a deal," he said, i looked up at him, furrowing my eyebrows.
"you skate with us every week and i give you a free board," he said, i raised my eyebrows in excitement. a smile crept onto my face. i looked at ruben who was smiling equally as much as me.
"what do you say, salem?" ruben said, i nodded.
"y-yeah! deal!" i said, ray held his hand out, i shook it as i kept smiling.

i thought this was the most exciting day of my life. not only am i getting a whole new board, i'm making friends!! ruben watched as i skated around the back with my new board, he was happy, i could tell.
"ruben, thank you so much. honestly, i don't know what i'd be doing without you right now," i said, he shrugged.
"it's the least i could do for being such a douche," he said, i nodded.
"thank you, seriously," i said again. he smiled, i couldn't help but pull him into a hug. he hugged back, laughing softly.
