Sometime during the night, both of you had rolled to face the center, unconsciously snuggling together under the blankets. That was how you awoke – with your arm wrapped loosely around his waist, and his face tucked into your collar. You felt your cheeks heating up, but at the same time, the warmth of his body and the soft puffs of his breath on your neck were soothing, as if you had been made to curl around him like this.
"Morning, lovebirds!" Elle chimed as she yanked back your curtains, causing you to jump back from Levi so hastily that you almost fell off the bed.
"Son of a –" Levi grunted, throwing an arm over his eyes. "Would you shut the curtains, already? That sun is atrocious."
Elle smirked. "Are all merpeople this grumpy?" she chuckled deviously. "Anyway, you two need to hurry up. Everyone else has gone down to breakfast, so if you want to sneak around, now is the time."
"Guess I should be thanking you," you grumbled as you hauled yourself out of bed. "But did you have to wake us up like that? You could've just said something."
"I could've," Elle agreed with a wink. "But I wanted to make sure you weren't having too much fun in here."
You rolled your eyes. "Anyway, Levi, we should hurry. Bathroom first, and then...hmm, we'll have to find some clothes for you –"
Before the words finished leaving your mouth, Elle dropped a pile of white and grey fabric onto the bed. "I borrowed these from the laundry," she explained with a proud smirk. "You're welcome."
Levi raised his eyebrows at her before turning to you. "Are all your friends this..."
"Sneaky? Resourceful?" you guessed flatly. "Perks of being in Slytherin. Now, let's get going. Breakfast won't last forever."

Just as you were exiting the dormitory, Cressida arrived with some biscuits for you and Levi. You both gobbled them down as you slipped into the corridors, which were starting to get crowded now that breakfast was over. On one hand, the students' presence made it more likely that someone would notice Levi, but on the other hand, it provided cover by allowing him to blend in with the hundreds of uniformed teenagers hurrying off to class.
You considered hiding Levi's face beneath the hood of your robe – which he was wearing once again. However, as the weather was warm and sunny, the hood would attract more attention than it was worth. You just had to pray that no one saw him and realized he didn't actually go to school here.
The crowd thinned the closer you got to the exit. You had to force yourself not to run, your nerves growing at the increased exposure. But...yes, there was the doorway, and the Black Lake beyond it. You were so close...
"Miss (l/n)," drawled the cold, soft voice of the absolute last person you wanted to see right now.
Strike that. Filch was the last person you wanted to see right now. However, Professor Snape was a close, close second.
"Ah, good morning, Professor," you chimed, turning to face him with your most innocent smile. Levi, meanwhile, remained frozen, keeping his back to Snape.
Your Head of House eyed you suspiciously. "As I recall, you are meant to be in my classroom in ten minutes. So tell me – why are you heading outside with...who are you?"
Oh no, you thought as Snape focused his attention on Levi. "Well, you see, sir..." you uttered hastily, but it was too late.
Snape grabbed Levi's shoulder and turned him around, the professor's dark eyes widening as he realized that Levi was not actually a student. "(L/n) –"
