Avery's POV

The alcohol rushing through my veins felt better than usual, as I felt the beat of the music pulsing through my body. I stepped off the dance floor and leaned against the bar next to Zoe. "If you don't start doing your job properly, you're fired." Zoe rubbed her forehead as she shooed the bartender away, and smiled to me. "Having a good time?"

"I can tell you aren't."

"Just stupid," she nodded her head towards the bartender she just shouted at, "employees." Rolling her eyes at me, she took two shots from behind the bar and placed them in front of us. "On the plus side, drinks are on me."

"Drinks are always on you, Zo." We laughed as we took the shot. "Benefits of owning the club." She shrugged, smiling at me before resuming shouting at the slacking bartenders.

-

"Avery?" A tall, brown/blonde haired, brown eyed, man stepped in front of me. "Yes, and you are?" I questioned, continuing to move to the music. "Calum, Calum Hood. I recognize you from Tease." He raised his bushy eyebrow at me, confusion on his face. "Oh!" I smiled, standing still. "Calum! I know you." I smiled. "I thought I got the wrong person. That would have been embarrassing." He scratched the back of his neck, revealing his biceps. "Well lucky for you, I spared you the embarrassment." He smirked at my comment, before asking me, "do you want to grab a drink?"

"I can't stay long," he told me. "I have to be somewhere in about half an hour." He smiled sadly, before calling over the bartender and ordering us a drink. "What do you take?"

"Surprise me."

A few minutes later, he passed me a dark looking drink that I recognized. "Is this vodka and coke?" He nodded, taking a sip from his beer. "How did you know?" I laughed, taking a gulp of mine. "It's my favourite." He shrugged smugly. "I'm psychic."

"Oh shut up." I teased, pushing his arm gently. "Let's dance." He smirked, taking my hand and leading me to the dance floor, not letting me out of his sight.

-

"I saw you with a guy." Zoe poked me. "Yeah, one of the guys from Tease."

"No way!" She grinned. "Who was it?"

"Calum."

"You liked him didn't you?!" She shouted excitedly. "Shh!" I put my finger to my mouth. "You totally like him."

"Oh shut up Zo," I played with her. "Let's call a taxi."

-

As we stepped into our apartment, I trod on a white envelope that had been posted through the door. "Who posted mail at this time?" Zoe questioned, peeking over my shoulder. My name was printed on the front, in thick black letters. "Maybe it's my Mum sending her monthly check in." I shrugged, throwing it on the sofa along with my coat. "I'll read it in the morning." I yawned, saying good night to Zoe and going into my room.

-

Once Zoe was in her room, I tiptoed into the living room and grabbed the letter from underneath my coat and slipped back into my room. Who's writing is this? I knew for sure this wasn't my Mum's. Admiring the envelope, I noticed that the seal was perfectly sealed, no bumps or tears. Taking a slow breath in, I gently peeled the seal away, opening the envelope and showing me what was in side. What the hell is this?

Sliding out a piece of paperwork, I saw the name 'Danny McScott' printed at the top, next to 'The New York City Police Department'. As I scan read the page, I noticed that some pieces of the writing were covered by black rectangles. Confused, I suddenly realized what I was reading. Out of shock I dropped the paper, and felt my self fall back slightly. It was Danny's police report file. Who sent me this? Picking the paper back up, my shaky hands kept a tight grip on the sheet as I let my eyes scan the parts of the report that were readable.

"Drug abuse."

"DNA left on an injection needle."

"Disappeared for 1 year."

My breath hitched in my throat as I turned the sheet round. Pictures of Danny were printed all over the back. Recent pictures. The beat of my heart felt uneven as I stared in disbelief. He looked so unaware. So unaware that someone was taking these. He was doing ordinary things, like getting a coffee, reading the newspaper in the park. In the centre of the page, there was a small message printed in the same black font as the envelope.

"I'm watching him for you, Avery."
