He Who Could Read Minds (One Shot)
. . .
I can read minds.
I don't know exactly when it started, but maybe it was way back in high school. When I was naive enough to trust anyone, just everyone I'd met. Sometimes I could hear their thoughts and opinions about me. A stupid, gullible person. And because I was scared enough to face the harsh reality I kept clinging on my so-called 'friends' to claim myself that I can join in a circle.
A circle full of cunning, lies, and deceptive human beings.
My self-esteem was very low. In fact, whenever they tried to ask me things they want to be fulfilled on time, telling me that it's part of my grade. I could hear their thoughts that it's really not. And they'd just want to pass their responsibilities to other students who want to get acknowledge by the teachers. Which... I usually am not.
I freaked out the first time I heard an insight, well... wait. I remember getting mixed up with their thoughts and words at that time. I would usually hear their thoughts instead of what comes out from their mouth. Then I'll ask them if they said that, but they would only exchange weird looks at each other and ignore me.
I even asked my parents if they ever had the same symptom as me when they were young. My mom told me that my father's ascendants were clairvoyants. But instead of seeing the future, their capabilities were to tell the people of what they really want to hear. Instead of finding out the future they were heading.
"No one find it suspicious, and it really was a mystery even for me." My dad said,
I was so shocked that my dad didn't inherit it. I was the one who inherited telepathy instead. Which is more shocking for me for it was very unbelievable.
One time before graduation, my friends planned to cheat their test papers. I didn't help them and they ignored me. When my friends were caught in the act by our adviser, they blamed it on me instead.
Even when I tried to defend myself, no one took my side. Everyone went silent. But amidst to them, I could hear the thoughts circling through their minds,
'I don't want to get in trouble... so it's better if I shut up.'
That was my sudden realization that no one should be trusted. even my so-called 'friends'. No one could ever be your true friend in a world full of lies.
And that's when I decided to stop believing anyone right now and until I start college.
First day of class, I knew I was the only one gloomier than ever. As expected, no one really wanted to be beside me, which was very reassuring and calming at the same time. I'd stopped caring about their thought towards me but I couldn't help myself feeling irritated again and again.
'Who's that guy?'
'He looks so bland.'
'He looks kinda creepy'
'I don't really feel comfortable sitting beside him.'
'Is there other chairs excluding this one?'
