Tara woke in the middle of a muddy street. A kind lady in Medieval dress picked her up.
"Dear young Fraulein, have you fled. here from Hannover?" She brushed dried dirt from her dress. " can use some help if you are willing to work. Are you hungry?"
"Yah, my lady." (Tara hoped her return greeting was acceptable.)
Streets were narrow. Houses thatched with wooden beams showing in outer walls filled with stucco.
"Is this London?"
"Nein, young lady. It's Hamburg. We thought the Black Death was over over ten years ago. But we have lost hundreds to heaven or hell lately. I need you to help with an English soldier, who can pay for treatment. He pays enough to help me feed you."
From her history class, Tara knew this Pandemic was both wind bourn and transmitted by fleas inhabiting rats. The year must have been 1363 ot 64. While the Bubonic Pandemic had already wiped out a third of Europe, it was taking further encores there in Medieval Germany.
"I am Frau Mueller." She led her to a two-story thatch -roofed, Tudor- style house. Beyond the raised threshold at the door were soft leaves with occasional twigs that poked the bare feet of Frau Mueller's raggedy clothed children. Bacon hung over the front door and a symbol of family wealth as well to assure that with flour they could at least have bread and perhaps honey with butter for supper.
In the back bedroom lay a young man with long shirt covering most of his body. Weapons, Shield, and some body armor was stacked orderly in one corner.
"Frau Mueller, would you remove the thresh from the house? The Black Death is spread by fleas in rodents that I saw within these walls. I will help you as well as tend your soldier.
