so if you didn't understand it, in the story Karlie has always wanted to fly -- however, in different ways, meaning that when she was little she wanted to fly the literal way, with wings and all that, like a bird; but recently, she wanted to fly in a way that's not literal -- she'd jump off somewhere and die.
so then, she found Taylor and although they didn't fall in love with each other, their fondness was enough for them to jump off school's roof together, because they were sad and people at school (and out) bullied them and hurt them because they wanted to "fly".
