(ignoring him) Under Section 87 of the Special Police Investigative Powers Rules, private investigator Hisham Sabtu has been appointed as a special consultant to the case. It is hoped he can contribute his expertise and knowledge-

HISHAM

Now, I'm going to list out what I physically understand about case RK-546B2-B-

Can we just call it the Case of the Decapitated Datuk?

Using its official number is just so dry.

MURUGAN

At about 2.15pm on May 19, 2019, the police were called to Amethyst Villas, Bangsar, by one Laila Mokhtar, 34, the housekeeper of the premises.

HISHAM

Exhibit A: a photograph of the crime scene, taken on the day of the investigation. The dead body of a naked man lies on a tiled floor. The body is in a star-shape: his hands and legs stretched out. It is placed in the center of a pentagram, in the middle of a circle. Both are drawn with chalk. There are candles at each point of the pentagram. There are strange red rings around his hands and legs: perhaps a sign he was tied up. And finally, the body is missing its head.

HISHAM

Why did you wait till the end to mention the most interesting part?

MURUGAN

Forensic evidence reveals the head was hacked off, rather carelessly.

There were no bloodstains on the floor or anywhere else in the room, which measures about 100 sq metres. No usable hair or fiber evidence was found.

Our victim is identified as Datuk Harunisham Mokthar, scientist and CEO of Wyvern Pharmaceuticals. Well-known face in Malaysian high society. Datuk H, as he is popularly called, frequently appears on local news programs, and had a science column in a local newspaper.
