We've settled in our new class. It's right beside the library which means sh gotta be quiet. Chatted with friends, mates here and there. Too many of them, you'll meet them as time goes on. Let me be real with you here, most times it's usually boring in here being a principled school and all but we always manage to get our fair share of fun. My class is extremely competitive. One slight drawback in your score and you're out of the race. I think the idea of science class being the best has been completely drilled into their heads that they stop at nothing to outdo one another. It gets annoying sometimes really.
So here I was walking around the school doing nothing in particular as usual. I'm this kind of girl that takes life with levity and just believes in living life with simplicity while having fun along the way. I hate anything boring, emphasis on the hate. I've always been loquacious as they call me. Although I have a bad temper which am working on and terrible mood swings, oh so awful mood swings. These two traits I don't like about myself. I wasn't walking alone though. I was walking with my seatmates and friends, Zainab and Maryam. We entered the library to mix with people. This morning the library wasn't the quiet place it was supposed to be as SSS 3 students filled everywhere chit-chatting.
"Silence! Silence in the library!" The librarian yelled for the umpty-umpth time. Not like anyone listened though. I went to mix with people coz that's how I roll.
"Hello people of Earth." Was my usual greeting when joining a group.
"Azeezat!" "How you doing?" "How far?" Everyone chirped. I was with the boys now. I'm an extremely social person so I talk with everyone. "I'm fine." I replied. "So what are you guys up to?""Just talking about the upcoming exam," Mus'ab shrugged. Did I mention he's hot? And no, I definitely don't mean that hot. I'm talking about hot as in very good in academics that is. Plus, he's a hafiz. Cool right?
"I'm scared o. I've not started reading yet." Mubarak said. He's a friend of mine, homie.
"See who's speaking. You spent the entire lockdown going to tutorial so don't form for us here." Abdullah chastised. Abdullah, fun guy, irritating sometimes. Also a hafiz -his only plus.
"Yes o. Don't act like you haven't read." I supported. "It's people like us that should be scared."
"Eh, you said? If you say another word there I'll burst your head." Abdulsomad said, facing me.
"It's true now. I'm not prepared." I emphasised.
"Whoever believes she's speaking the truth should raise his hand."
One. Two. Nope, no hands.
"You're guru now." Abdullah said.
"Yeah, it's sure for people like you." said Abdulsomad.
"You mean Zubayr? It's sure for her now." Muhideen, Jaguar, as the boys call him cos of his huge stature and height.
"Abeg stop overhailing someone jor." I waved them off.All right, so at this level I feel I should break it down to you our mode of communicating here as I'm sure you've being finding some words weird.
Shey: Do you mean?
Abeg: Come off it/bullshit
Jor: Please
Guru: A smart person.
I wouldn't have included these grammar but I feel like it's the only you guys can get an insight of our lifestyle here. That's why am sticking with our colloquialese here."On a more serious note guys, how are we going to finish the syllabus with exam starting in less than a month?" I voiced the question that had been on my mind since.
"There's going to be a tutorial for us but they aren't taking all the subjects," Mus'ab said.
"Only Mathematics, English Studies, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Economics/Geography...I think for our department." said Mubarak.
"I doubt we'll round off Physics and Chemistry though. The topics are way too broad." I said.
"True." Everyone agreed.Like I said earlier, am a people person so before I knew it I was in the midst of another group of people. Introducing Abdul-rahman, Abdul-basit, Abdul-azeez, Ridwanullah and Yusuf. These guys form a clique on their own. They relate with others but anyone would easily guess their closeness.
"Small girl." Abdul-basit greeted calling me by the same name I repeatedly told him not to. I glared at him and he just chuckled.
"Azzy_101, what's up?" Yusuf and Abdul-azeez greeted. That's one of my nicknames in class.
"Azeezat hey." Abdul-rahman greeted. It's not that he's shy or anything but we don't really talk.
Ridwan -short for Ridwanullah- simply nodded his head at me. He's a pretty shy person. I mean I've only spoken to him like twice so far. All of them are computer geeks and they watch anime like their life depends on it, especially Abdul-basit, Abdul-azeez and Abdul-rahman. Yusuf is mostly into K-drama.
"Hello." I greeted. "How are y'all? Whatcha doing?" I asked hoping to join in on their talk.
"We're talking about something that's none of your business." Abdul-basit said playfully knowing full well I'll get annoyed.
"Tell me now!" I huffed.
"Is it a must you know everything?" Yusuf asked laughing at my behaviour.
"Yes, it's a must." I said.
"We're not telling you." Abdul-azeez added. What kind of people are these?! They just enjoy seeing me annoyed. It's like their thing.
"Don't mind them. We were talking about the latest anime."Abdul-rahman told me.
"Oh." My face brightened up when I was given an answer and I smirked at the three boys but when the words sink I got annoyed coz it was anime they were talking about and I wasn't a fan or maybe it's because I've never watched it before that's why am not a fan. "I thought you were talking about interesting stuffs." I gave them a look, "I'm going."
"Finally." Said Abdul-basit. He just had to get on my nerves.I let my eyes wander around looking for anything interesting to partake in and that's when I saw it. A group of classmates having a good time at the last seats of the library. I had zero idea what they were talking about but I was definitely going. Wherever fun is, Azeezat is.
