Chapter 15: Betrayal

Marcus exited his titan form and made his way to Bertholdt's now decaying titan. He found the tall boy's limp body on the floor. 'C'mon Bert you can make it!' Marcus thought as he quickened his pace. Marcus then dropped to Bertholdts side and put his fingers on his neck, a faint heartbeat, slowly fading.

"I'm not losing you too, one was enough!" Marcus said as tears slowly filled his eyes as he put his hands on Bertholdt's chest and pushed on his chest, giving mouth to mouth, doing anything he can to keep him alive. 

Marcus put his fingers back on his neck.........no heartbeat. The tears continued making their way onto Marcus's cheeks as he continued pressing on Bertholdt's chest, "C'mon you son of a bitch!" Marcus said as tears started to fall to the floor. Marcus stopped pressing on Bertholdt's chest, he wiped the tears from his face and picked up the body.

Eren and Annie had helped clear out the titans. They were gone, all of them. All that remained were the ruins of a once peaceful and beutiful town. Bodies littered the streets, and blood was everywhere you looked. The two had already left their titan forms and had looked for survivors, none, out of all the people who escaped were roughly 10,000 people, 200,000 people lived here, 190,000 people were killed.

Eren found his son sitting on top of rubble near a group of bodies. "Delvin, what are you doing here?" Eren asked as he looked at his on concern on his face. Delvin looked up at his father, blood and tears stained his face. "I thought they escaped, now look at them, they're just more bodies to add to the pile.

Eren walked over to his son and held him in a tight embrace, "Everything is going to be ok, I promise." Eren said. "Dad, I could'nt save them, I thought I could, but in the end I could'nt do SHIT!" Delvin yelled. "Look at me Delvin, it's gonna be ok, YOU are gonna be ok, I promise, just trust me, ok?" Eren said.

Delvin nodded as he continued hugging his father. Annie smiled as she watched the two from afar as tears ran down her cheek. She wiped the tears away and jumped down from her little perch and walked towards them. "MOM!" Delvin said as he broke the hug with Eren and ran towards Annie. Annie held her son in a tight embrace but soon had to let go.

"We should head back to the camp." Annie said. Eren nodded motioned for Delvin to follow. About 20 minutes later the three arrive back at the camp and found everyone there, including Jean who had awoken and found his way back.

"Did you find anyone?" Armin asked as he walked up to Eren. Eren shook his head in disappointment. "I'm sorry." Armin said, "It's fine, no need to apologize, I'm just glad you guys showed up when you did, there are people who could fight but a lot of people were either too young or inexperienced with their shifting, you guys helped a lot." Eren said with a smile as he put a hand on Armin's shoulder. 

After a few minutes Eren looked over to find a man carrying what seemed to be a body. "Guys, someone's coming." Eren said. The other looked to see the same man. As he got closer he started to look familiar. "Marcus." Annie said as Eren and her took off trying to get to him. 

Armin and Mikasa looked from afar as they saw Marcus drop to his knees the body still in his arms, they could see he was yelling at the two in front of him, but his words seemed to be of sadness as the two made their way over and could hear him more clearly. Annie was crying as she leaned over the body Eren clenched his fists as he stared at the body.

Marcus looked at them with tears in his eyes, "I'm sorry, I COULD'NT SAVE THEM, I COULD'NT DO SHIT!!!" Marcus yelled, his words filled with sadness. "We need to give him a proper funeral." Eren finally said as he face the other direction trying not to show the tears streaming down his face.

Marcus looked at him and nodded as he stood up and picked up the body. He walked into camp ignoring the stares he got until, he came upon Krista and Ymir. The two saw him, he was covered in blood and dirt. Ymir looked at the body and put her hands up to her face, Krista noticed the body and did not see Reiner anywhere and tears slowly rolled down her cheeks. Marcus kept walking but looked at the two sadness in his eyes.

"I'm sorry." was all he said as he continued walking. Soon he came out the other side of the camp and found a patch of land that Bertholdt used to come to, so he could sit under the shade of the tree and sleep. Marcus set the body down and started digging a grave. After about and hour, Marcus had set the body in the grave and put the dirt back into the hole. He then grabbed a wooden cross he had made, it read: Here lies Bertholdt Hoover, Friend and Uncle, he will be missed.

Marcus put the cross ontop of the grave and said his final good byes, "Hey Bertholdt, you and Reiner better save me a seat at the bar when I get up there." Marcus said with a small smile as he walked away.

Once Marcus arrived at the camp he met up with Eren, Annie and Delvin. Marcus looked at them sadness still lingering in his eyes, "I'm sorr-" "Don't apologize, they knew the risks, and you did all you could do, you don't have to live with this guilt and sadness." Annie said as she wiped the remaining tears. 

"We just have to hope they're in a better place." Eren said as he looked at the floor. Several soldiers soon arrived surrounding the group. It was the 104th trainees squad. "What the hell are you guys doing?" Eren asked. "We're sorry." was all Armin said as Commander Smith, Levi, Hanji, and Mike came up to them. "Eren, we're taking you in." was all Erwin said as soldiers grabbed them, "DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH THEM!!" Eren yelled as the soldiers pinned them to the ground, "IF YOU HURT ANY OF THEM I WON'T HESITATE TO KILL YOU!!!" Annie yelled. 

"WAIT!" Marcus yelled, "Let them go, and take me, you don't want them, I was the one who helped break down the walls." Marcus said. The commander thought for a moment, "let the rest go, bring him." Erwin said. The soldiers let the others go but dragged Marcus away. Eren tried to run afte him but was pushed down by Levi, Levi glared at Eren but soon walked away resisting the urge to beat him. 

Eren stood up once more and charged, but was stopped by the cadets of the 104th, "Eren please stop, we don't want to hurt you." Connie said. "NO SCREW STOPPING I WON'T LET THEM TAKE HIM!" Eren yelled as he struggled to get past the cadets. Annie soon stepped in, "Eren, we can't do anything, please just stop." Annie said with sadness in her voice. Eren sighed and walked away, but soon stopped and looked at the group of cadets, "I will never forgive you." he said as he soon started making his way towards his home.
