As I stated, I am facinated by the weather. Awe inspired, even. Whether it be rain, snow, extreme wind - even storms - I would follow them them, from initial forecast to the event itself. This weather event - a rain front that rapidly turned to snow as it hit the cold air occupying Britain - was destined to be a pretty decent one! The whole of the area was covered bya yellow warning - which I believed to be a little underwhelming.
The snow arrived just as expected - lightly at roughly 12, but steadily getting heavier and heavier. School was dismissed at 2:45, and the buses were not coming. Students were advised that they should find a friend who lived in the village and visit theirs. Of course, I offered up my home and no-one could refuse - they had no-where else to go, anyway.
We all arrived at my house, where I found that no-one was home. I wasnt too alarmed, as they had probably gone to collect my sister from her school. I settled everyone down and did the obligatory offer-of-drinks - 5 teas, 2 coffees, and the hot chocolate pour moi (I detest both tea and coffee). I brought the drinks in when the phone errupted into song.
'Hello?' I answered the phone.
'Hey, Charlie?' The person at the other end replied. It was my mum.
'Yeah?'
'We're kinda stuck at Gidding. Lynne's offered to keep us for the weekend as the snow looks like it's gonna continue for quite a while. You'll be okay by yourself, right?'
'The thing is... Im not by myself...' I was dreading the reply I would get from that statement.
'Oh... who's there?'
'Oscar...' I heard a slight sigh from the other end of the line. '...Josh and Alyce' I continued as a groan was heard. '...Elspeth and Chloe' She wasnt too upset to hear those names. 'And a couple of others.'
'Well. Erm. Just, stay safe, okay?' She finally said. There wasn't much she could do anyway. 'Love you'
'Love you too' I ended as I put the phone down.
'So, who wants a pizza?' Of course, no-one could refuse.
