Patricia and (Name), the next day were getting nervous about Newton in the looming structure that seemed to reassemble a spider. They had been informed that the final marble was in a less maliceful looming structure, a tower where theatre masks were made by trained mice.

“So, this is the final one, I guess…” Patricia said in an almost saddened tone.

“It means by the end of this, Newton is gonna have the Titans kicked out of him and he’s gonna be back to being normal. I hope.” (Name) replied in an almost snarky manner.

“Yeah, let’s just hurry up and get this over with…” Patricia said as she strolled into the tower. Inside were many hanging wooden beams supporting the rather oddly built structure. It swayed gently in the wind from poor architectural design almost ominously, while theatre masks had been placed to certain surfaces to spice them up a bit. The silence apart from the creaking of the tower was rather macabre to Patricia… It didn’t help that the ground had been covered with a thick consistent layer of strawberry red paint.

“This place is rather… Eerie…” Patricia said in a quiet tone. She shuddered.

“We just have to find a way to the top.” (Name) reassured her. “We’re not going to be dragged into any stupid machine that turns us into mice…”

“You saw the queen! She could have something like that!”

“She’s, uh… You’re right, but let’s just go.” (Name) was getting impatient. The lilies she had picked earlier were clinging to her thoughts and had planted new roots there. Why she felt so compelled to keep them… Her mind was swarming with lilies, Newton and a ton of pollen for some reason.

Patricia and (Name) wandered aimlessly, Patricia more or less leading the way while (Name) trailed absentmindedly, her thoughts and attention focused in the land of her mind. She was so distracted she stepped in some wet paint.

“Aw, come on…” (Name) said, lifting her foot and seeing the red paint drip off. Patricia stopped for a moment and waited.

“I think I’ll just wait for you…” Patricia offered, beginning to glance around and give herself a little mental pep talk over her surroundings while awaiting (Name).

A small, fine, thin paintbrush lay next to the puddle. (Name) gingerly picked it up, when something snapped into place in her head. It was a pretty bad idea, but… Lilies, paper and writing implements. Flowers and notes.

Aha.

(Name) took the sheet of paper from her pocket and stepped over to the nearest vertical wooden beam, pressing the paper against it and beginning to write something with the red paintbrush. Patricia raised an eyebrow and tried to see what (Name) was writing, but she was keeping it well shielded.

“What are you writing?” Patricia asked in confusion.

“Nothing.” (Name) said in a muffled voice, before gently blowing on the paint for it to dry immediately. She slipped it into her pocket and turned around, clapping her hands with a content smile.

“So, let’s keep going, shall we?” (Name) said.

“Alright.” Patricia replied, before glancing down at the tiny white corner poking out of (Name)’s pocket. She was so curious… But how to get it?

Patricia, while (Name) wasn’t looking gently tossed something shiny onto a high-up wooden beam.

“Hey, (Name), I see something shiny up there.” Patricia coaxed. She gently swivelled (Name) around to face the beam and pushed her towards it. “Should you stand on my shoulders so you can check it out?”

“Why not?” (Name) said. Maybe it was something she could add to the note… Maybe it was a gem of some sort, maybe, so many questions. Then again it could just be tinfoil.

Patricia headed over to the beam as (Name) clambered onto her shoulders and stood on them. (Name) glanced at the beam and saw nothing but a shiny bit of metal. “Patricia, there’s just nothing but-”

(Name) felt a hand reach into her pocket and pull out the note.

“OI!” (Name) shrieked, tumbling to the ground uselessly as Patricia hastily unfolded the note and read over the contents with shaking hands and wide eyes.

“Dear Newty - I really really really love you and I don’t wanna ever ever ever leave you ever again. From (Name)”. The note read in elegant cursive red paint. A lily had been pinned to it.

(Name) grabbed it from Patricia’s hands and held it close to her chest, (Name) collapsing to the ground as they stared at each other, speechless in disbelief.

“Y-You like Newton?” Patricia stammered. “You’ve liked him… For all this time?!”

(Name) couldn’t summon the words to her throat. She merely hesitated, before giving a slow nod. Her eyes were subconsciously wide, large windows into her soul.
