"Lucky!" Isabella cried, whining annoyingly. "You get Jason's big bedroom, and I get to stay in my pathetic one!"
Caleb rolled his eyes and continued looking through his belongings. His little sister had already complained to his mom about the room change, and when she saw it had no affect on Mom, she came to annoy Caleb instead.
"Go away," Caleb Robinson sighed. "We've been over this. I get Jason's bedroom, and little David gets my bedroom. I don't think David wants to stay in your pink bedroom."
"Come on!" Isabella huffed. "Pink is a perfectly good color! And David is only three, he won't care!"
"He'll care when he gets older."
Isabella huffed again and stormed out. Caleb sighed in relief. He continued to shuffle through his junk drawer, random items collected through the years shifting around his hands. Boy, was he glad to be getting a new bedroom! Jason's was much larger, and it was just plain more awesome.
Jason, at age nineteen, was going off to college in a week. Hartford University, to be specific. He'd be leaving behind his bedroom.
Caleb still remembered the night when they had discussed who the new resident would be. The first thought had been to let Isabella go in there, since she and little David had to share a room. Isabella looked very smug, eyes scanning everyone at the dinner table, daring them to object.
So Caleb had pointed out that it would leave David to grow up in Isabella's hot pink bedroom. Plus, Isabella was only eight, and Jason's large bedroom would be a little much for her. Caleb suppressed a small giggle as he remembered Isabella's face go beet-red.
So then they thought David could move in instead. But then that idea was thrown due to the fact that David was only three.
So that left twelve-year-old Caleb. They all decided - except for Isabella, who grumbled the whole way - that Caleb would get Jason's bedroom, David would get Caleb's bedroom, and Isabella would stay put. Isabella had stormed off in a ceremonious rage to her bedroom, and had woken up for school with her face still red.
Caleb paused in his exploration of his junk drawer. He was getting sick of pulling out thing after thing that he had forgotten about across the years.
He stood up and stretched. He couldn't wait for the new bedroom! More space, more privacy, and more.
Caleb walked out of his bedroom and walked down the hallway.

And while Caleb's back was turned, a small amount of mist condensed on top of his drawer. A little white marble appeared, swirling with energy. Upon touching the dresser, the swirling slowed down and stopped, leaving the powerful orb looking like a normal white marble. The mist dissipated and disappeared, leaving behind only the marble.

At the end of the hallway, Jason's bedroom door was wide open, spilling out light. Caleb walked in, surveying the room.
The room was very large, at least as large as his parent's room. A very bright fan light in the middle lit up even the darkest of corners. A large loft bed sat at one end, with a huge drawer system on the other. Several other sides of the room had bookshelves on them. And the closet was a walk-in closet, with so much space it blew the mind.
Jason was kneeling on the floor, looking through some of his stuff. At the moment he was fingering what looked like a necklace, with a red stone at the bottom. Noticing Caleb's presence, Jason put the amulet in his suitcase and smiled at him. "Hey, Caleb! How are you doing?"
Before Caleb had a chance to answer or to ask about the red stone, Jason was continuing.
"I can't believe it's actually happening. I'm going to college!" Jason paused for a breath. "All my life I've been thinking about this time, and suddenly it's here!"
Caleb nodded in agreement, smirking slightly. "I can tell this is quite a big moment for you," he put mildly.
Jason nodded in return, suddenly silent. He was staring into nowhere, eyes glazed. Caleb waited for a second, then walked quietly away. It would be best to leave Jason to his thoughts.
Upon walking back in his bedroom, Caleb immediately noticed something was off. It was in the air, like it was charged.
But the feeling soon wore off. More than a little disturbed, he shrugged it off and continued to rummage through his junk drawer.
Kneeling at the dresser, he found himself face-to-face with a white marble.
Caleb picked up the marble and scratched his head. Was this another of his forgotten items?
Unconsciously, he got up again and headed by down to Jason's room. Maybe he would know.
Jason was looking through some of his stuff when Caleb walked in. He turned and smiled. "What now, Caleb?"
Holding forth the white marble, he said, "I found this on my dresser. Do you recognize it?"
Jason's eyes lit up, and he reached out for the orb. "No, I don't," he said quickly. "Can I hold it?"
An instinct deep inside Caleb told him to withdraw his hand. "Nah, I think I'll keep it. It's really pretty."
Jason's eyes flashed again, but he shrugged. "Okay." He turned away and continued packing his stuff, hands deftly grabbing and setting down.
Caleb slowly walked back to his bedroom, a little confused. Why had he kept the marble from Jason? Why did some part of him want to have the marble privately so much?
Before he could even reach his bedroom, mist appeared out of nowhere, quickly obstructing his vision. Caleb nearly cried out in surprise. What the heck was fog doing in his house?
Then something felt different. Very different. Something buzzed in his hand. Caleb looked down and found the marble in his hand, glowing and swirling with enormous energy.
What the heck?
That was the last thought his brain registered before it all went black.
