You were there, now I know, on that fated day,
Still but alive even as I lost your pulse -
But it had been my heart that had given away.
To those dire, muffled pleas as anguish engulfed me
The world was my witness.
Were you there, hidden in the shadows that night,
Did you hear me weep to what was left of you?
Knelt by the grave, holding on for dear life,
I whispered through tears my want of a miracle
The stars were my witness.
You weren't there, by then it had been too long -
My last hopes snuffed out and strength was but a stranger.
Before dawn broke and the masses came along,
I'd confessed my woes to the empty minister.
The walls were my witness.
Weren't you there, a persistence after years,
Holding me back like any of it mattered?
Trying to stop me declaring my heart was his
That Christmas-Eve date I felt like a traitor
Cold fog was my witness.
I yearn for you, the taste of your lips once more,
Was I but a page in the book of your life?
Dusk is emerging now, and I fear
Your chapter in my life is over.
My heart is the witness.

"Gray! Come downstairs for dinner, please."
A hushed sigh narrowly proceeded his lips as he closed his diary, sliding it under the pillow. Back to the mundanity of life without meaning.
Gray and his commiserate-looking mother sat through their food in utter silence. The aura around them was poignant, the only thing able to break it being the hard slash of a knife of the simple pop of a pin. But nothing. Nothing at all.
She knew what he was feeling. Her son was lost. Her son was floundering. Her son was solus.
A few mouthfuls of unsatisfying food later, Gray excused himself and trudged back to the comfort of his room; crawling underneath the duvet and slipping into the sultry hands of the unconscious.
All he wanted was his Scott.
Scott Holmes.
